Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mitali,

I hope you are doing well. I am happy to hear that you want to know about my experience because I already studying at the university where you are going to plan for the study in abroad.

I studied in the one of the private college of physiotherapy for my bachelor degree in London. Also, it is one of the best university because their teaching staff was excellent, knowledgeable and their teaching methods were quite advanced and more practical based rather than putting emphasis on theoretic concepts. Therefore, I was able to get in-depth knowledge regarding plenty of physiotherapy subjects, discovered a new diseases and various exercises to overcome the pain of patients. So, I was able to get good grades in the final exams of the university.

I studied in the UK, and the local people of this country were such a helpful, kind-hearted and respectful. Also, this country is developed, hence, I was able to get all sort of facilities like public transports, best hospitals, educational academies and accommodation, good neighbourhoods, which raise our standard of living and make our life more convenient and enjoyable.

That year helped me a lot for my personal development, because living away from family teach me about how to take responsibilities, fulfil our needs without any support of relatives and earn money to get financial support to our family. As well as, spending an one year in abroad plays a pivotal role to inculcate a good communication, cooperation, time and money management, and decision-making skills. As a result, it is responsible for my personal growth and foster me towards the bright career.

I hope my suggestions will be helpful to you. Please let me know if you need other help. I look forward to your positive decision in this matter.

Best regards,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: you identified where you studied (London), described the country (UK, developed, helpful people), and explained the benefits for your studies (personal development, communication, and management skills). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend's sister. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven; while you provide a good list of benefits, some parts, such as the description of the country, are a bit generic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your personal experience is more clearly linked to the specific advice you are offering the recipient.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Also', and 'As a result' to connect your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing, such as the use of 'our' when referring to your own personal experience ('raise our standard of living'). Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring consistent pronoun usage would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some good collocations like 'pivotal role', 'inculcate', and 'standard of living'. However, there are some word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'discovered a new diseases' (should be 'discovered new diseases') and 'putting emphasis on theoretic concepts' (should be 'theoretical'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and pluralization to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb tenses ('I already studying') and articles ('spending an one year'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'teach me' instead of 'taught me' and 'a new diseases'. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency would be very beneficial.
