Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Dhwani,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to advice you about the univeristy degree you want to pursue in Canada. I am pleased to hear that you want to study abroad. It takes courage to choose this. I proud of you about this. Also, as you know that I completed my study in Canada, I want to suggest my experience to you.
First of all, please choose your course carefully and check all individual subject as well so you can gain knowledge about it. I have completed International Business Management Course from the University of Windsor. I have learnd many things from it. If you are thinking about studying business, this course would be ideal for you. Moreover, University of Windsor is a well known and perfect for this course. Apart from this living in Windsor is comfortable rather than living in big cities like Toronto and Brampton. There are many facilities under the Windor University campus which would be beneficial to you. For intsnace, they have accommodation facilities, Library, catering on campus which i found most beneficial for me.
Furthermore, I have developed many skills after spending time here and completing my education here such as good communication, learned new culture, being familiar with the advanced education sysem, more responsible, discipline and many more. I am sure that you will learn many more when you come here.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you still have any questions and concerned about studying abroad. I would be happy to resolve all your doubts.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Varsha Rathod

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified where you studied (University of Windsor, Canada), described what you learned about the country (cultural awareness, education system), and explained the benefits for your studies (communication skills, responsibility). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend's sister. However, the response could be improved by providing more specific details about the country itself, rather than focusing primarily on the university campus facilities. The ideas are relevant, but some development is slightly repetitive, such as the list of skills. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While the paragraphing is sufficient, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with flow, such as the sudden shift from discussing the university to living in Windsor. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid and less list-like.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pursue', 'courage', and 'beneficial'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'advice' (should be the verb 'advise'), 'univeristy', 'learnd', 'Windor', and 'intsnace'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling errors and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific vocabulary related to international education to demonstrate a broader range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I proud of you' (missing verb 'am'), 'I want to suggest my experience to you' (awkward phrasing), and 'check all individual subject' (should be plural 'subjects'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
