Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: you identified the location (Turkey), described your observations about the country, and explained the academic benefits of the experience. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend's sister. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the 'hospitality of Turkish people' and 'historic places,' these points could be expanded with a specific anecdote or detail to make the letter more engaging. Similarly, the explanation of how the year helped your studies is quite general. Providing a specific example of a skill or insight gained would have strengthened your response significantly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition to that,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph regarding the roads. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'esteemed university,' 'hospitality,' and 'significant impact.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'major subject that was human physiology' (should be 'my major was human physiology') and 'advance technology' (should be 'advanced technology'). There are also some spelling errors, such as 'STUDING' and 'ALOT' (which should be two words: 'a lot'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring consistent spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I took at right time' (missing article), 'teaching science subject' (should be plural), 'help me to progress' (should be 'helped' to maintain tense consistency), and 'Your's truly' (incorrect possessive form). The use of all-caps is also inappropriate for a letter. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve your score.
