Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Aparana,
I hope you are doing well. I writing to share my experience about study abroad. Yesterday I got a message from your sister and she asked me about the courses and university details. Recently I graduated from Trend University, Durham Canada, Ontario. I have successfully completed my post graduate certificate in Financial Analytics. I am so happy to share my success. When I came in Canada I was so excited and over the moon. Moreover I learned many things during my journey. Also I did many part-time jobs with my studies such as cashier, kitchen assistant, waiter, cleaner and so on. Honestly speaking that extra pocket money was really helped to pay my course fees. Secondly, I learned various cultures and different types of food items. Also, I learned various transactions and rules. Additionally, my first year was really fruitful for my studies because my class mates was very friendly and motivated me a lot . I remember I was quite nervous for presenting the assignment at that time my classmates was very supportive and corporate with me. I know you are social butterfly like me so your decision is excellent and if you need any help I am willing to enquiry about the courses at university.
Let me know you have any doubts. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Krishna.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the location of study, what was learned about the country, and the benefits to the student's academic progress. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of what was learned about the country is limited to 'various cultures and different types of food items' and 'transactions and rules,' which lacks depth. The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter, but the response would benefit from more specific details regarding the academic benefits beyond just mentioning supportive classmates. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the ideas could be expanded further to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the message is easy to follow. Paragraphing is present, though the structure is somewhat cramped, with the main body points merged into a single paragraph. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Also,' 'Secondly,' and 'Additionally' is present, but some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The logical flow is clear, but the letter would benefit from a more distinct separation between the introduction, the body paragraphs covering the specific requirements, and the closing remarks to improve the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at idiomatic language such as 'over the moon' and 'social butterfly.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'willing to enquiry' (should be 'inquire' or 'help with inquiries') and 'corporate with me' (should be 'cooperate'). While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the lack of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary limits the score. The errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I writing' (missing auxiliary verb), 'When I came in Canada' (preposition error), 'my class mates was' (subject-verb agreement), and 'that extra pocket money was really helped' (incorrect passive/active construction). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the message. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage, as well as refining the use of articles and prepositions.
