Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified where you studied (Canada West University), described your cultural learning experiences, and explained the academic benefits of your year abroad. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend's sister, maintaining a friendly and encouraging register throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a clear picture of your experience. To reach a higher band, ensure that all specific details are fully integrated into the narrative flow, as some transitions between your academic achievements and cultural observations feel slightly abrupt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding recommendation. You use paragraphing effectively to separate different themes, such as your academic background, cultural observations, and the benefits of the experience. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Undoubtedly' and 'Not only... but also', some transitions are a bit mechanical. For instance, the shift between your academic background and cultural observations could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this step' and 'our duties', which could be more precisely linked to the preceding ideas to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'esteemed university', 'diverse cultures', and 'milestone'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'knowlegde', 'diffrent', 'genuienly', and 'servive', which slightly detract from the professional quality of the writing. While your word choice is generally clear and conveys your meaning effectively, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas, but the recurring spelling inaccuracies prevent a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am thankful that I took decision of year abroad study, because this step becomes my milestone'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'year abroad'), verb tenses ('I had done with' instead of 'I had completed'), and prepositions. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I hope you are in a great health'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy and overall control of complex structures.
