Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Navi,
Hello, how're you? I'm glad to hear that your sister is planning to spend a year overseas for studying as a part of her university course that I recently completed and she asked me for advise.
I completed my course at Fanshawe college in London, Ontario. It was one of the best colleges where I got quality education. All the teachers were quite experienced and they'd detailed knowledge about all the subjects.
Along with studying there, I got a chance to learn about the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the local people. Moreover, I improved my communication skills as I used to talk with my classmates and teachers, which helped me a lot to improve my language skills.
I studied in IT(information technology), in this course I learnt about different programming languages and coding. If people have a detailed knowledge about it, they can secure a good position in IT field and also can earn handsomely.
I hope this information would help you to make a perfect decision. See you soon.
Love,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points outlined in the prompt. You mentioned where you studied by writing 'I completed my course at Fanshawe college in London, Ontario', described what you learned regarding 'the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the local people', and explained how it was helpful for your studies by noting that 'I improved my communication skills' and learned 'different programming languages and coding'. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly, suitable for writing to a friend's sister, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. All requirements are well fulfilled, earning a strong band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle paragraphs addressing specific aspects of your experience, and a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different themes, such as the location in the second paragraph, cultural learning and communication skills in the third, and academic benefits in the fourth. Cohesive devices like 'Along with studying there', 'Moreover', and 'in this course' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although slightly more varied transitional phrases could elevate the flow further.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate and functional vocabulary for this task, successfully conveying your experiences and thoughts. Phrases like 'quality education', 'experienced', and 'programming languages' are used accurately. However, there are some minor lexical issues, such as asking 'how're you?' instead of 'how are you?' and the slightly awkward phrasing 'she asked me for advise' where 'advice' (noun) should have been used instead of the verb. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If people have a detailed knowledge about it, they can secure a good position'). You demonstrate good control of past tenses when recounting your experience ('I completed', 'I used to talk'). There are a few minor grammatical and punctuation errors, such as 'for studying' instead of 'to study', and the contraction 'they'd detailed knowledge' which is informal and slightly non-standard in this context. Overall, the majority of sentences are clear and communicate your message effectively.
