Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Maria,

I hope you are doing great. I was glad to hear that you planning to go Australia for a study. It would definitely benefits you in further study or a career prospects.

During my trip to Australia, I took 1 year program in Macewan Univercity, which is one of the best government funded univercities. The fee was reasonable and lot more ficilities were provided by them such as accommodation and job placement. So, I felt more relaxed and got more time to explore around the country.

After visiting and interacting with people over their I learnt about culture and history. It helped to to develop essential skills such as impressing communation, observation and boost my confident. Moreover, I gained valuable international work experience, which might help me to get more career opportunities.

My program was closely aligned with my current study in India, software engineer. Therefore, it was highly useful in my current projects and assignments. In addition to this, study stayed continue, and I did not feel distracted.

I would suggest you to make your trip worthit through using your time in learning things, and experiencing work and study culture. I wish you enjoy your tour.

Best regards,

Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You successfully covered all parts of the letter prompt. You told Maria where you studied (Macewan University, though you mistakenly placed it in Australia rather than Canada), described what you learnt about the country's culture and history, and explained how the year abroad helped your software engineering studies. Your tone is appropriately friendly and consistent with a general letter format. However, there are a few minor factual confusions regarding geography, and some of your ideas, such as how the program helped your skills, could have been slightly more elaborated to reach the highest bands. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and all three bullet points are fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from greeting to introducing the topic, sharing your experience, explaining the academic benefits, and concluding with advice and well wishes. You used paragraphing appropriately to separate different ideas, such as university details in the second paragraph and cultural learnings in the third. However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or are misused, such as 'study stayed continue' and transitions like 'Moreover'. Referencing is mostly clear, but occasional minor lapses in linking sentences prevent this from reaching a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'government funded', 'job placement', and 'international work experience'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the writing, including 'planning to go Australia' (missing 'to'), 'ficilities' instead of facilities, 'impressing communation' instead of improving communication, 'confident' instead of confidence, and 'worthit' instead of worthwhile. These lexical slips occur frequently enough to keep your score at the band 5.5 level, although communication is never severely impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Although... / Therefore, it was highly useful...' and relative clauses ('Macewan Univercity, which is one of...'). There are, however, frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, such as 'you planning to go', 'it would definitely benefits you', 'over their' instead of there, 'It helped to to develop', and 'study stayed continue'. While these errors do not completely obscure your meaning, they are persistent enough to demonstrate limited control over more complex structures, placing your grammar squarely in the band 5.5 range.
