Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Raman,
I am writing this letter to share my international experience which I gained during my studies in Canada.
Although we did not met, your elder sister Aman always talks about you as we have been friends from ten years, we know each others' family very well. She told me that you want to come to Canada for study, if I would suggest you I must say this will going to be your thrilling experience as Canada is quite modern in various aspects.
From my experience I can say that first that you can learn here is to become independent. From household chores to outside resposibilities, everthing you are going to do by yourself. This will boost your confidence dramatically. Along with this, multi- cultural society of Canada has taught me excellent communication skills.
Canadian exposure has made me capable enough to handle any situation by myself as well as I can talk to people from other communities like professionals.
I wish you good luck for this amazing journey of your life, if you ever need any help I am always available.
With Love,
Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate addresses all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, the location is stated clearly: "studies in Canada". Second, what was learnt about the country is described through points about becoming independent and experiencing a "multi- cultural society". Third, the explanation of why the year abroad was helpful is linked to boosting confidence, gaining excellent communication skills, and handling situations capably. The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. However, some of the ideas are slightly brief and could be extended further to achieve a higher band. Overall, the task is fully covered with clear, relevant ideas that address the prompt directly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle paragraphs addressing the bullet points, and a warm closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the body points, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are present, such as "Although", "From my experience", "Along with this", and "as well as", which help to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing is sometimes slightly awkward, such as "From my experience I can say that first that you can learn here...", which affects the flow. Progression of ideas is generally clear, but some transitions feel a bit mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like "international experience", "thrilling experience", "household chores", and "multi- cultural society". There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but also noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as "met" instead of "meet", "resposibilities" instead of "responsibilities", and "everthing" instead of "everything". While these minor errors and slight awkwardness in phrasing occur, communication is never impeded, and the friendly, enthusiastic tone is well maintained throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilising structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., "Although we did not met...", "if I would suggest you..."). However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies and slips throughout the text, including tense issues ("this will going to be"), subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage ("friends from ten years" instead of "for ten years"). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the writer maintains good control over the overall communicative purpose of the letter.
