Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sara,

Hope you are doing well. I am writting this letter to answer your questions about the study options in Canada. Last year, I did my masters in management from university of Toronto and spent one year there. My experience was really amazing. I learned so many things. Beside the academic knoweldge, university runs so many programs which can help you in learning practical aspects of useful things.

Canada is a beautiful country. While studying there, I also spent a lot of time in learning about their culture. People in canada are really nice and friendly. They are rich in culture and you will get a chance to spend time with people from different ethnicities. I highly recommend you to consider canada's tornoto university if you are planning to study abroad. Unlike other universities, there you will get a chance to develop practical skills which are highly benefical for your future growth. I remember that skills I learnt there, helped me cracking a job interview in a multinational company.

Please do not hesitate to write back if you have any other queries. I would love to assist and let me know if you need any help in enrolling there. I will also share some refrences with you once you move to Canada. I hope to hear from you soon.

Lots of Love,

Ginni

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You mentioned where you studied by writing 'Last year, I did my masters in management from university of Toronto and spent one year there.' You described what you learned about the country, noting that 'People in canada are really nice and friendly' and that they are rich in culture. Furthermore, you explained why the year abroad was helpful for your studies and career by stating that the university helped you develop practical skills, which 'helped me cracking a job interview in a multinational company.' The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a General Training letter to a friend's sister. All parts of the prompt are fully addressed with relevant, well-developed ideas, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter has a clear logical organisation and progression. It starts with a friendly greeting and purpose, moves into describing the experience and country, and concludes with an offer for further assistance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics, such as the general experience in the first paragraph, the cultural insights and career benefits in the second, and closing remarks in the third. Cohesive devices such as 'While studying there,' 'Unlike other universities,' and 'Please do not hesitate' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text. Although some transitions are straightforward, the overall arrangement is coherent, earning a solid Band 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'multinational company,' 'ethnicities,' and 'practical skills.' However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'writting' instead of writing, 'knoweldge' instead of knowledge, 'benefical' instead of beneficial, and 'refrences' instead of references. Additionally, capitalization is missed for proper nouns like 'canada' and 'tornoto'. These errors indicate occasional slips in spelling and word choice, placing this performance in the Band 6.0 category because the vocabulary is adequate and attempts less common items, but errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You make use of a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ('which can help you in learning practical aspects' and 'if you are planning to study abroad'). There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'helped me cracking' instead of 'helped me crack' and missing articles ('from university of Toronto' instead of 'from the University of Toronto'). Punctuation and basic sentence structure are generally sound, and the minor errors do not impede communication. This reflects a typical Band 6.0 profile, characterized by a mix of structures and some non-systematic errors that do not hinder understanding.
