Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly stated where you studied by mentioning Western University in London, Canada. You described what you learned about the country, specifically highlighting its natural beauty, trail parks, conservation areas, and seasonal weather differences. Furthermore, you explained how your year abroad was helpful for your studies and subsequent career by linking the program to gaining exact skills needed for your current analyst job at Amazon. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend's sister, and the purpose of the communication is fully achieved. Minor improvements could involve expanding slightly on the academic experiences rather than shifting focus entirely to post-graduation work, but overall all parts of the prompt are addressed well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a clear logical organization with an appropriate opening greeting and a formal sign-off. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct themes, such as the introduction of the university, descriptions of Canada, and your current employment status. However, cohesion between sentences is occasionally basic, and some transitional elements are missing or repetitive. For instance, the transition between paragraphs regarding Canada and your current job could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though phrases like 'I gave you all the information needed' feel a bit abrupt for an informal letter to a friend's relative, affecting the overall natural flow of the cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common expressions such as 'conservation areas' and 'offer letter'. However, there are a few noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'carreer' (career), 'trail park' (trail parks), and 'folks' which sits slightly out of tone, alongside prepositional slips like 'one the most beautiful country' instead of 'one of the most beautiful countries'. Additionally, 'in the pink of health' is used correctly as an idiom, showing ambition, though it feels slightly archaic. Overall, vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('that is in London, Canada' and 'which might help you'). There are, however, several grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include pluralization errors like 'one the most beautiful country' instead of 'one of the most beautiful countries', article omissions, and subject-verb or tense slips such as 'climate get little harsh' instead of 'the climate gets a little harsh' and 'where folks can spend time with there loved ones' (their). Punctuation is also slightly flawed in places, such as comma splices ('Canada is one the most beautiful country, It has...'). Despite these errors, meaning is rarely impeded.
