Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Isha,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you an information about doing a course abroad which I did recently.

I did my master of Pahrmacy course at the University of Toronto in the year of 2023. I got an addmission by giving an online interview. It took me arounf two years to complete this course. I learned all the aspects of Pharmaceutical Industry throughout my academics including practical sessions.

Apart from my academic sessions, I also explored some other stuffs as well. It includes I enjoyed the various kinds of food there. Moreover, I learned how the citizens follow each and every rules and regulations. I also learned their local language and their culture with taking part in different cultural activities.

I think that studying abroad would be the better option for you due to the various reasons. One of the main reason is that it helps an individual to be independent, and make confident enough to take some serious decision without any restrictions. In future, it would be the chance to get some better job opportunity in a particular field.

Thank you for reaching me. I am looking forward to your response. Best of luck for your future endeavours.

Yours sincerely,

Shubham Savaliya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the prompt well. You successfully identified where you studied by stating, 'I did my master of Pahrmacy course at the University of Toronto.' You described what you learned about the country, mentioning that citizens 'follow each and every rules and regulations' and noting your exploration of local food and culture. Additionally, you explained why the experience was helpful, pointing out that it 'helps an individual to be independent' and creates 'better job opportunity.' The tone is appropriately friendly and consistent with a letter to a friend's sister. All bullet points are addressed satisfactorily, making this a well-developed response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning and ending. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics, such as your studies, cultural experiences, and advice for the future. You used some cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Apart from my academic sessions,' 'Moreover,' and 'In future.' However, referencing and transitions are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I also learned' in successive sentences. Overall, the message flows well and is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common phrases such as 'Pharmaceutical Industry,' 'cultural activities,' and 'future endeavours.' However, there are notable spelling errors, such as 'Pahrmacy' instead of pharmacy, 'addmission' instead of admission, and 'arounf' instead of around. There are also slight lexical inaccuracies, such as using 'stuffs' which is too informal, and 'take some serious decision' where the collocation 'make serious decisions' would be more natural. Vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly despite these flaws.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over structures such as relative clauses and conditional ideas ('I think that studying abroad would be the better option for you due to the various reasons'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, you wrote 'give you an information' (information is uncountable), 'every rules' (should be 'every rule'), and 'with taking part' (should be 'by taking part'). You also wrote 'make confident enough' instead of 'makes you confident enough'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band.
