Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Aleen,
Its been a really long time, since I have interacted with you. During my last conversation, with your sister Samantha she mentioned that, you are planning to styduing aborad for your final year of medicine.
While, being a recent graduate in the medicine field, I am thrilled that, you have selected Australia.Hence, you are Pharm.D major like me, I would strongly suggest you to apply to Sydney Medical Univeristy, as your prime choice.
As I have studied from this university, and my last semester ended a month ago. The overall enviorment, of this univerisity, courses, teachers and alumni even are really good. There are so many, extra curricular activities to join as well. I was the member, of the book club and theatre as well.
Accomodation, over there is easily available even outside the campus. There are two libraries nearby, where I used to spend my evening. On the weekends, all of our classmates used to explore the city together.
My year abroad was super great, choosing this university was a brilliant idea and I am really hopeful when you narrow down your universities options, you will find many more positive reviews about this univerisity.
I am really, looking forward to see you in Australia and will be so excited to see you get amazed by this bueatiful country culturer and society as well.
Your's Sincerely,
Fariha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The candidate successfully covers all the bullet points required in the prompt. You state where you studied by mentioning Sydney Medical University in Australia, describe aspects of the country and environment such as the beautiful culture and society, and explain how your year abroad was helpful by highlighting the positive impact on your studies and career path in medicine. The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter to a friend's sister. However, some ideas regarding what you learned about the country remain slightly brief and could be extended further. Overall, the task is well addressed, satisfying the core requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear logical organization with an appropriate opening and closing format. Ideas are generally grouped into relevant paragraphs covering the university, accommodation, and personal reflections. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, and paragraphing could be structured more cohesively to improve the overall flow. Referencing is mostly clear, but punctuation errors around commas occasionally disrupt the reading rhythm. Overall progression is visible, fitting the band 6 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general task, attempting some less common items such as "extra curricular activities" and "prime choice". However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as "styduing" instead of studying, "aborad", "Pharm.D major" instead of major, "enviorment", "Accomodation", "univerisity", and "bueatiful country culturer". These errors indicate limited precision, though communication is not severely impeded. The lexical range is sufficient for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ("While, being a recent graduate...", "...when you narrow down your universities options..."). However, there are frequent errors in punctuation, particularly the misuse of commas breaking up clauses unnaturally, along with minor grammatical slips like "Your's Sincerely" instead of Yours sincerely. While these errors do not completely obscure meaning, they occur regularly and impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
