Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Maria,
I'm writing this because I've recently received your letter, in which you have asked about my experience related to Robotics course which I did last year.
I've done this course in AI & Robotics University, It's located in the Chinpeng city of North China. The duration of this course is 6 months and I lived in a single room in university hostel. The university is very big covering a big area and have different buildings allocated for different departments. Robotics department is near the hostel and refreshment area.
This course helped me alot to understand the robotics and it's future. I've learned traditional rebotics development as well as using Artificial Intelligence in its development. I've developed a personal AI assistant a well and I can command that to perform different actions in my computer. I know we have different AI assistants available but having a personal assistant is great for privacy and customizations.
University have arranged different trips in factories where we saw real world usage of robots. In a car factory we saw how robots are building cars and assembling them. We've visited a robots factory where robots were building other robots, I was amazed to see that. these are things we can't practice in our country and these are very helpful in our studies.
At the end, it's a good university and will help alot in your study goals.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the prompt. You mentioned where you studied by writing 'I've done this course in AI & Robotics University, It's located in the Chinpeng city of North China.' You also described what you learned about the country and the course content, noting elements such as traditional robotics and using Artificial Intelligence. Finally, you explained how the year abroad was helpful for your studies by mentioning factory visits and practical experiences that 'we can't practice in our country.' The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for a letter to a friend's sister, maintaining a clear purpose throughout. Ideas are relevant and developed well enough to satisfy the requirements for this band, though a little more depth would elevate it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical overall progression. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the experience, such as the location in the second paragraph, the course learning in the third paragraph, and the factory visits in the fourth paragraph. However, there are some issues with cohesion and punctuation, such as comma splices ('I've done this course in AI & Robotics University, It's located...') and repetitive sentence structures starting with 'I've'. Paragraph transitions feel a bit mechanical at times, such as 'At the end, it's a good university', which lacks the natural flow expected at higher bands. Nonetheless, referencing is mostly clear and the reader can easily follow the narrative.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common lexical items related to the field of study, such as 'Artificial Intelligence', 'personal AI assistant', and 'customizations'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors, including 'rebotics' instead of 'robotics', 'alot' instead of 'a lot', and awkward phrasing like 'covering a big area and have different buildings'. While the writer demonstrates enough vocabulary to communicate their ideas clearly, these repetitive inaccuracies and limited control over collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I'm writing this because I've recently received your letter...' and '...where we saw real world usage of robots.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('University have arranged' instead of 'The university has arranged'), missing articles ('in Chinpeng city'), and punctuation errors like comma splices ('...development as well as using Artificial Intelligence in its development. I've developed...'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to restrict the score to this level.
