Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Neelam,
I hope this letter finds you in great spirits. I am writing to share my experience of foreign education. Since, you are also planning to take studies in abroad, I truly hope that my experience would give you a valuable insight.
Firstly, there are numerous institution all over the world which are known for their expertise in the education. I chose to study in Canada because of its diverse culture and abundance of opportunities in almost every sector. I graduated from Conestoga college which offers a wide range of courses and stand tall in the list of colleges that are known for their best results. I pursued a two year diploma program in Mechanical Technician and I successfully landed a very decent position in the same industry.
In my opinion, Canada is a great choice for international students as it has the best educational institutions. Moreover, various universities offer scholorships to selected students. Apart from that, you can also work part-time job to manage your living costs. Also, I am very confident that you will be successful in your dream career because the education here is known for the best results and focus directly on the practical aspects of the program.
I hope with all the information that I have shared, your questions would have been answered. If you have any other queries, please feel free to ask.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task partially, as the content focuses heavily on general advertising for studying in Canada rather than properly responding to the specific prompts as a personal letter to a friend's sister. While you mention where you studied by writing 'I chose to study in Canada' and naming Conestoga college, the description of what you learnt about the country and how it was helpful for your studies is limited and lacks full development. Instead of detailing specific academic benefits or cultural insights gained during your course, the writing slips into general advice about scholarships and part-time jobs. To improve, ensure that every bullet point from the prompt is thoroughly explored with personal details and extended explanations rather than broad generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter maintains some overall organisation with paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, your educational background, and general advice about Canada. However, there is a lack of clear progression between ideas, and some cohesive devices are mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent transitions like 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'Also'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as the transition from discussing your personal study experience to general student life happens abruptly. To move to a higher level, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that your sentences flow smoothly from one point to the next, creating a clear and logical path for the reader throughout the entire text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common words and phrases such as 'abundance of opportunities', 'diverse culture', and 'dream career'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as writing 'take studies in abroad' instead of 'study abroad', 'institution' instead of the plural 'institutions', and 'scholorships' which is a spelling error. While these inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, they reveal limitations in lexical control. To achieve a higher band, you should refine your word choices, ensure correct collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and standard phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using structures like 'Since, you are also planning...' and 'I graduated from Conestoga college which offers...'. There are some grammatical errors throughout the text, including punctuation issues such as the unnecessary comma in 'Since, you are', article errors like omitting necessary articles or misusing them, and preposition errors within grammatical patterns. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to understand your overall message easily. To reach a higher level, you should aim for greater control over complex sentence patterns and eliminate minor mechanical and grammatical slips.
