Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Yashvi,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am glad to hear that you are planning to spend a year studing abroad from your university. I have also recenlty did the same thing.

I studied at the University of Toronto in Canada. and took computer science as my major subject. The campus was in downtown Toronto, and it was very wonderful experience of my life.

One main thing I learnt about this country is the culture over here is very versitile and pupils come here to study from across the world. So, you can learn many new things such as different things about ones culutre, their famous foods, their dressing style and many more. Specially people over here are very kind and welcoming.

Apart from that studying abroad has helped me in improving my language skills, made me more confident and also independent. The main thing was that the subjects which I studied here and were same in my own university I got the credits matched so, I did not have to study the same courses here in my home university. So, If you enroll in the pogram it will be beneficial overall for you.

I hope you have got the basis information about it.

Regards,

Rohan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all parts of the prompt by addressing where you studied, describing what you learnt about the country, and explaining how the year abroad helped your studies. For instance, you clearly state your time at the University of Toronto, mention the versatile culture and kind people, and explain how getting your credits matched prevented you from repeating courses. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or brief, such as your description of what you learnt about the country, which relies on general statements like 'different things about ones culutre' rather than deeper insights. To reach a higher level, you should extend and support all your main points with more specific detail and fully developed examples throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear friendly opening and closing, and you attempt to guide the reader through your experiences using paragraphing and basic connectors like 'Apart from that' and 'So'. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the run-on sentence structure in 'The campus was in downtown Toronto, and it was very wonderful experience of my life.' To improve further, you need to use a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that your sentences flow into one another smoothly without abrupt transitions or repetitive connector patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using functional terms related to university studies and travel such as 'campus', 'downtown', and 'credits'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a limited control of less common items, including 'studing' instead of studying, 'recenlty', 'versitile' instead of versatile, 'Specially' instead of Especially, 'pogram', and 'basis' instead of basic. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from achieving a higher score. To improve, you need to expand your precision with everyday spelling and attempt less common vocabulary items with greater accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and successfully incorporating some multi-clause sentences like 'The main thing was that the subjects which I studied here and were same in my own university I got the credits matched so...'. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('it was very wonderful experience', 'get the basis information'), awkward phrasing ('I have also recenlty did the same thing'), and run-on punctuation. These errors rarely impede communication, placing your grammar firmly in the mid-range. To move up, you should aim for a higher proportion of error-free sentences and refine your command of complex structural patterns.
