Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sarah,
Hope you are doing well. I am very glad that you want to go abroad for your study as this would be the best decision of your life. Being your guide, I would tell about the time when I got this chance, I got the chance to do Health Administration course which is of 16 month and I did this in Canada. The experience as an international student was very good as it helped to learn about the culture of Canada and I also learn to become independent in this country as when I came at first in this country I have nobody who can take care of me, slowly I made very good friends in this country.
The process of teaching in Canada is so clear and effiencent that I learned the skills very quickly and easily. With the help of this course, I also secure a job as health admin in one of the clinic. I would suggest you to grab the opportunity to study abroad as this would help you to become independent ,emotionally strong and eventually you can widen area of learning.
Thanks, hope this letter would help you.
Yours loving friend,
Kunal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you say you studied Health Administration in Canada, describe learning about Canadian culture and independence, and explain that the course helped you gain skills and secure a clinic job. These details make the letter relevant and personal. The explanation of what you learnt about the country is less fully developed, however: culture and independence are mentioned, but a specific example of Canadian customs, daily life, or the education system would make this clearer. The study benefit is also partly generalised in the closing advice. You already show some development through the job outcome, but extending how the course supported your university studies would make the response more complete and specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally sensible order, moving from your study location and experience to teaching, career benefits, and advice. The greeting and sign-off also suit a personal letter. However, most of the main information is placed in two very long paragraphs, so the reader has to work through several ideas at once. Some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly the repeated phrase “in this country” and the sequence “as when I came at first… slowly I made very good friends.” Separate the account of life in Canada from the explanation of academic benefits, and use clearer transitions such as “At first” and “As a result.” This would make the progression easier to follow and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main experience, including “international student,” “independent,” “teaching,” and “secure a job.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “Health Administration” and “widen area of learning.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “for your study,” “the process of teaching… is so clear and efficient,” and “widen area of learning” do not sound idiomatic in this context. There is also a spelling error in “effiencent.” Aim for natural phrases such as “study abroad,” “the teaching methods were clear,” and “broaden your knowledge.” More accurate collocations would make your vocabulary sound more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a longer sentence explaining how you became independent and made friends. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “I also learn to become independent” should use a past form, while “I got the chance to do Health Administration course” needs an article and a more natural grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “Being your guide, I would tell…” is also awkwardly formed, and the long sentence about arriving in Canada needs clearer punctuation or division into shorter sentences. Practise accurate past-tense narration and build complex sentences around one clear main clause.
