Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Anna,
I hope you're doing well. I am writing this to you in response to the questions you have been asked about my international study programme and life as a student in abroad.
There are particularly several advanatges to have an international degree.I was enrolled in Harvard university public health MSc course in USA. However, it was a challenging experience in early few months beacuse of cultural diversity, language barrier and environmental adaptation but it provides me with a valuable experience throughtout.
Public health courses evolves around major pandemic and epidemic conditions and we had reserach on those topic to learn in depth. Therefore, I explore various regions to collect data and to understand the cause and effects on population. This gave me insights to undertsand the country and people adaptation there by this project.
Depsite the cultural challenges, international study enhaces my knowledge, broaden my perspective and also develops better interpersonal skils which is why I had a wonderful experience while studying there.
I look forward to hearing from you if you need further assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Manayer

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify Harvard University in the USA, describe cultural and environmental adjustment and learning about local people through research, and explain that the experience broadened your perspective and developed interpersonal skills. These relevant details meet the task well. The explanation of what you learnt about the country is less fully developed, however: “understand the country and people adaptation” is unclear, and the letter gives little specific insight into the country itself. The benefit to your studies is also stated generally rather than linked to a particular skill or course outcome. The opening and closing are appropriate, and the response shows some development, but clearer, more specific examples would make the content more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens by explaining its purpose, moves through your study experience and learning, and ends with a friendly offer of further help. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages. Some connections between ideas are less clear, though. For example, “However” introduces the challenges but the sentence then shifts to the value of the experience without a clear contrast, while “Therefore” joins research and exploring regions in a way that does not fully explain their relationship. The progression from the course description to what you learnt about the country could also be more explicit. Use linking phrases to show cause, contrast, and result precisely, and make references such as “those topic” and “this project” unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural diversity,” “language barrier,” “pandemic and epidemic,” “valuable experience,” and “broaden my perspective.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use more specific language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “student in abroad,” “international degree” when describing a year abroad, and “people adaptation.” There are also spelling errors, including “advanatges,” “beacuse,” “throughtout,” and “skils,” which reduce precision. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe adapting to local customs or learning about people’s lifestyles rather than using “people adaptation.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a sentence beginning “Despite the cultural challenges” and a clause explaining why the experience was valuable. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “Public health courses evolves” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “I explore various regions” shifts tense from the past account. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention: “in early few months” and “in USA” are not formed accurately, and “in depth. Therefore” needs a space after the full stop. Practise maintaining past tense when recounting the year and checking agreement, articles, and punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the letter.
