Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Raman,

I hope that you are doing well.

I'm writing this letter to share my experience of studying abroad.I studied criminology since 2024.

I studied in universty named is Kwantlen Polytechnic. This is located in main Surrey. My experience was very good in there. I want to tell that this university is expensive as comapred to thoer colleges and educational fields.

The educational system is totally changed in Canada as compared to India. In Canada, overall grades is calcuated through whole semster; however in our country, final examation is provided final grade. The main thing is that in here, everyone has to submit thier own work. Any kind of cheating is not allowed by universty.

Studying in this country is helpful because I got chane to complete in degree by getting all faclities.Desipte the study, Studying foreign is usfule for me as I become dependent women. Now, I can easily manage everything.

I hope that my suggestion will be usful for you.

Take care.

your lovingly

Kuldeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the three requested points: you name Kwantlen Polytechnic in Surrey, compare aspects of Canadian and Indian education, and explain that studying abroad helped you become more independent. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader some useful information. However, the experience of the country is described mainly through grading and rules about cheating, while the benefit to your studies is not clearly explained beyond access to facilities and completing your degree. The purpose is understandable, but some ideas are limited or unclear, so the task is only partially developed. To strengthen the letter, explain more specifically what you learned about Canadian life or culture and how that knowledge or experience improved your academic skills or progress.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a generally sensible order: it introduces your experience, describes the university and education system, then explains the benefits and closes politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking words such as “however” and “because” show some relationships between ideas. At times, though, the progression is interrupted by abrupt or unclear statements, such as moving from the university’s cost to the education system without explaining the connection. Some linking is also mechanical, and references such as “in here” are not clear or natural. Group related details more deliberately and use straightforward transitions to show how each point connects to your experience and to the advice you are giving Raman.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “educational system,” “overall grades,” “final exam,” and “cheating.” The contrast between Canada and India is also expressed with relevant terms. However, the range is limited, and several spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make parts of the letter difficult to understand, including “comapred,” “examation,” “chane,” and “usfule.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “complete in degree” and “dependent women.” Aim to learn accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language for academic progress and cultural learning would help you describe your experience clearly without relying on repeated general words such as “study” and “helpful.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and a more complex contrast using “however,” and the reader can usually identify your main meaning. Nevertheless, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic grammar, sometimes making the message hard to follow. For example, “overall grades is calculated” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “I studied criminology since 2024” uses an unsuitable tense for an activity continuing from a past date. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “universty named is Kwantlen Polytechnic” and “abroad.I studied.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences, choosing tenses consistently, and checking punctuation before sending the letter.
