Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Priya,

I heard from your brother that you are planning to doing study-abroad year for your university course. That is a wonderful decision and I am happy to share my experience with you.

I spent a year studying at the university of Berlin in Germany as a part of my university exchange program. The university had excellent facilities and experienced teachers. I had the opportunity to study along with other international students from different countries.

During my stay, I learned the great deal about German culture and traditions. I was particularly more interested to see the German technology and advancement in Science. I also learned a little German language just to greet and meet individuals. Discovered my other things like food, culture and festivals.

This experience was extremely helpful for my studies. As it helps me to improved my communication skills, increased my confidence and helped my to understand my subjects from an international prospective. Moreover, living in foreign country help me to taught how to sustain life independently.

Overall, my experience to a foreign county was enriching both on studies and experience. I would strongly recommend to study abroad.

Best Regards

Yasir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the University of Berlin in Germany, mention learning about German culture, technology and language, and explain that the experience improved communication, confidence and understanding of your subjects. The friendly opening and recommendation also suit the purpose. Some details are less fully developed, however. For example, you name German festivals and food but do not give an example, and the link between studying abroad and your university subjects remains general. The explanation of independent living adds a relevant benefit, though it could be connected more clearly to your studies. To strengthen the response, include one specific cultural discovery and explain how an academic experience abroad helped you in a particular subject or skill.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the plan, describe the university, discuss what you learned, and then explain the benefits before concluding. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “During my stay” and “Moreover” signal relationships between ideas. This gives the letter a coherent overall structure. Some connections are less smooth, though: “Discovered my other things like food, culture and festivals” is a fragment and does not clearly connect to the preceding sentence. The repeated use of “I also learned” and the abrupt “As it helps me” make parts of the progression feel mechanical. Use complete sentences and vary transitions so that each detail follows clearly from the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “university exchange program,” “international students,” “traditions,” and “communication skills.” The language is generally appropriate for a friendly letter, and the reader can understand your experience. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision, such as “planning to doing study-abroad year,” “learned the great deal,” “German technology and advancement in Science,” and “international prospective.” “Foreign county” also appears to be an inaccurate word choice. These errors show that the range is not yet consistently controlled, especially when expressing more complex ideas. Learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms; more precise phrases will make your account sound natural and clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “I was particularly more interested to see…” and “As it helps me to improved my communication skills…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. Examples include “planning to doing,” the fragment “Discovered my other things,” and the tense and verb-form problems in “As it helps me to improved” and “living in foreign country help me to taught.” There are also article and agreement errors, including “a little German language” and “foreign country help.” Aim first for accurate basic clauses, then build complexity with controlled forms such as “It helped me improve…” and “Living abroad taught me…”. Proofreading verb forms, articles and sentence completeness would improve accuracy.
