Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear shakti,

I'm writng this letter as your elder brother to give you some important suggetions about your university course and lifestyle of abroad.

I did my master from university of Toronto in electronics engineering from May 2023 to May 2025, which was two year course.

I have learned a lot about the culture of abroad such as their cuisines, lifestyles, languages and ethics. One main benefetis here in Canada is that all people follows rules and regulations. People in Canada have high quality of living standards with friendly neighborhood.

Moreover, there are many job opportunities are available to suport financially during your study because me personally work as part-time with my study, so it helps me to pay my rents and all other utilities bills including fees payment for the course.

I hope you will get right advice on selecting for your career and don't worry I always been there for you whenever you need my help.

Yours trustworthy,

Dharmik

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You make a relevant attempt to address the three points: you identify the University of Toronto, mention aspects of Canadian culture, and explain that part-time work helped with expenses. However, the response only partially fulfils the task because the study benefit is not clearly explained. The letter focuses on employment and paying bills rather than how studying abroad improved your academic work, skills, or understanding of your subject. The description of what you learnt about Canada is also broad, with examples such as “cuisines” and “rules and regulations” but little personal detail. Develop each point with a specific experience, especially a clear link between the year abroad and your studies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has a recognisable opening, several paragraphs, and a closing, and the ideas are generally grouped by topic. Basic linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “so” help connect some information. However, there is no consistently clear progression from the requested experience to what you learnt and how it helped your studies. The paragraph about job opportunities shifts away from the academic purpose of the letter, and “here” is not a clear reference to the country or university. The final paragraph also combines advice, reassurance, and a closing thought without a smooth transition. Use one paragraph for each task point and connect ideas with clear references and purposeful transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “university course,” “culture,” “job opportunities,” and “part-time.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts less natural, such as “writng,” “suggetions,” “benefetis,” and “suport.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, including “culture of abroad,” “high quality of living standards,” and “fees payment.” These choices can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and more specific vocabulary about your academic experience and observations of Canada.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including the sentence beginning “Moreover, there are many job opportunities…” and the clause explaining how work helped pay expenses. However, the range is limited, and complex attempts are often faulty. Examples include “all people follows,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “I always been there,” which needs an auxiliary verb. Other patterns, such as “I did my master from university” and “during your study,” show problems with articles, prepositions, or number. These errors sometimes make the message harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense forms and subject–verb agreement, then build longer sentences from reliable clauses.
