Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Neha,

Hope this letter finds you in radiant health and great sipirit. I am extremely delighted after knowing about your enrollment in a university of London, where i spent almost three years for my studies. I am writing in the response by sharing my experience.

I am an alumni of Education Department at Oxford Univesity, London. The campus was very unique with breathtaking views. Morover, the professors are very cooperative with students, and experienced in their field of study. I got a batch with very friendly and dedicated classmates.

The United Kingdom, a country with vast culture and history provides many experiences related to your personal and professional growth. The most of the population of the country is fitness freak, and live in the moment which i admired them the most. It made me learn to be health concious is really significant to live in present. Besides, I learnt about their language, traditions and especially about Halloween festival.

My stay during study in abroad helped me alot in my furthur studies in our country as it gave me more advanced and practical knowledge which I am using know to explore new concepts. Apart from this, my social and communication skills have improved by interacting people from various nation.

Best wishes for your upcoming life in London.

Kind regards,

Navpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify Oxford University in London, describe aspects of life and culture in the UK, and explain that the experience gave you practical knowledge and improved your communication skills. These details make the letter relevant and generally complete. The explanation of what you learnt is the strongest part, with examples such as fitness habits, living in the present, language and traditions. However, the study benefit is stated rather generally, and the opening creates some uncertainty by referring to a university in London before naming Oxford. To strengthen the response, clarify the location and give a specific example of how your new knowledge or skills helped with your later studies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with a greeting and purpose, then moves through your university experience, observations about the country, and the benefits for your studies. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these topics, and linking expressions such as “Besides” and “Apart from this” show how ideas relate. The progression is mostly logical, though the opening repeats the purpose (“I am writing in the response by sharing my experience”) after already mentioning the recipient’s plans. Some connections between ideas are also abrupt, particularly the move from fitness habits to the lesson about living in the present. Use more precise references and transitions, and make each paragraph develop one connected point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a personal letter and attempt some less common expressions, including “breathtaking views,” “personal and professional growth,” and “practical knowledge.” These help convey your experience, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “radiant health,” “fitness freak,” “alumni,” and “in the response.” There are also spelling errors, including “sipirit,” “Univesity,” “Morover,” and “concious,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe people as “health-conscious” rather than “fitness freak,” and say you are “replying to your letter” rather than “writing in the response.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including longer sentences with clauses, as in “The United Kingdom, a country with vast culture and history provides many experiences…” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and limit control. For example, “The most of the population … live” has an incorrect article and agreement, while “helped me alot … as it gave me” shifts awkwardly between past and present reference. “by interacting people” also needs a grammatical pattern such as “by interacting with people.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and missing commas around introductory or descriptive phrases. Review articles, agreement, prepositions, and sentence punctuation to make your varied structures more accurate.
