Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ruhi,

I hope you and your brother Rohan are doing great. I was extremely thrilled after hearnig the news of you coming to Canada to complete your university course. I recently completed my Project Management course from Lambton College Toronto in June 2026. In this course I studied scrum master, project management and planning, and risk management etc. All my instructors were highly qualified and majority of them are currently working as a Project Manager with Canada's one of the most reputed firms. I would definitely recommend you to consider Lambton College.

Apart from this, after coming to Canada I learned a lot about Canadian culture and traditions. I must say that, Canadian Education System is great, it significantly focuses on practical knowledge instead theoratical one. Furthermore, Canadian learning institutes have a strong network of employers. Which helps their students to gain an internships then direct job placements. They also provide reference letter upon request. Even I got my current job after recieving the internship provided by the college. I hope this information is helpful for you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Pooja

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the three requested points: you identify Lambton College in Toronto, describe aspects of Canadian education and culture, and explain that the college internship helped you obtain your current job. The recommendation to consider the college also makes the letter relevant to your reader. However, the description of what you learnt about the country focuses mainly on education and employment, with little about Canadian culture or traditions despite mentioning them. The benefit to your studies is also less fully explained: you list course subjects, but do not show how studying abroad improved your academic knowledge or skills. Develop these points with specific examples and a clearer link to her university course.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening paragraph introduces your experience and college, while the second discusses Canada and the practical benefits. The greeting and sign-off suit the letter, and phrases such as “Apart from this” and “Furthermore” help signal connections. At times, however, the progression is a little mechanical, and the second paragraph moves quickly from culture to education, internships, and your job. The sentence beginning “Which helps their students” is also an unclear continuation after a full stop, weakening the connection between ideas. Group related points more deliberately and use complete, smoothly linked sentences so the reader can follow how your observations connect to your own study experience.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including relevant terms such as “practical knowledge,” “risk management,” “employers,” and “internship.” These choices communicate your experience clearly, and the tone is generally appropriate. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, such as “hearnig the news,” “Canada's one of the most reputed firms,” and “gain an internships.” There are also spelling errors, including “theoratical” and “recieving.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and naturalness of the vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, for example “one of Canada’s most reputable firms” and “gain an internship.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the relative clause in “instructors were highly qualified and majority of them are currently working” and the explanation of how the college network supports students. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Which helps their students” is a sentence fragment, and “Canadian Education System is great” needs an article. In “instead theoratical one,” the comparison structure is incomplete, while “an internships” has a number and article mismatch. Review sentence boundaries, articles, and singular/plural agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make the letter smoother while preserving the range you already attempt.
