Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Suman,
I hope you and your family are doing well. I'm writing to tell you about my experience during my education year in Canada.
I'd enrolled in Loyalist College, Toronto, Canada, and I studied Business course there. It is an exceptionally good institute, as the results of its students are always remarkable. Besides great education system, this college also provides some other facilities, including recreational activities, sports amenties and a spacious liabrary.
I really enjoyed my stay in Canada because I have not only did well in my course but I have also learned about the culture and traditional beliefs of the natives. I had visited a number of tourist attractions such as CN tower, American Lion Safari and Toronto Island. I came to know that the natives of this country love to travel and visit various famous places.
I beleive that choosing Canada for higher education is the one of my best decisions. With the help of my instructors, I achieved high grades in my course among all other classmates. The college also provides several sources to help students in their studies.
I hope you will find this letter quite constructive, and make the right decision related to your education goals.
Best of luck,
Harpreet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: you identify Loyalist College in Toronto, describe learning about local culture and visiting attractions, and explain that instructors and college resources supported your studies and grades. The friendly opening and closing also suit the audience. The account of what you learnt about Canada is relevant, but the claim that natives “love to travel” is broad and would be stronger with a specific cultural observation or example. Similarly, the academic benefit is stated mainly through high grades and available resources; explain more directly how studying there developed your business knowledge or skills. The response covers the task well overall, while some ideas remain less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the experience, describe the college, discuss Canada, and then explain the academic benefit. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these different aspects, and phrases such as “Besides” and “With the help of” connect related ideas. The progression is generally coherent, though some links feel mechanical, and the final paragraph moves quickly from grades to college resources without showing how one led to the other. The reference to “the natives of this country” is also not especially clear or natural in context. To strengthen the flow, use more precise references and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including “recreational activities,” “tourist attractions,” “traditional beliefs,” and “achieved high grades.” These choices help convey the experience, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “education year,” “Business course,” and “sources to help students.” There are also spelling errors in “amenties,” “liabrary,” and “beleive,” which reduce accuracy. Some expressions, including “exceptionally good institute” and “quite constructive,” sound less natural for this context. Aim for precise, idiomatic phrases and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both straightforward sentences and some more complex structures, such as “I have not only did well in my course but I have also learned…” and the sentence describing the college’s facilities. Most ideas remain understandable, but some errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction affect accuracy. For example, “I have not only did well” combines incompatible verb forms; use “not only did well” or “have not only done well.” “I’d enrolled” would be more appropriate as “I enrolled” when describing a completed past event, and “the one of my best decisions” needs a different article structure. Practise maintaining consistent tense and checking articles while retaining your attempts at varied sentence forms.
