Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Priya,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my thoughts on having experience of studying abroad.
Fortunately, I had just completed 1 year of experience in studying abroad. I have completed 1 year course in IT from Cambridge university in London. I learnt many practical things rather than boring theory work. This university believes in hands on projects than theoritical assignments. I worked on many real life projects with my team. In that course, I got many friends from different countries and got aware with various culture.
Honestly, it has changed my way of thinking by having this course. I feel more confident and knowledgable than before. It helped me to enhance my skills effectively. Also, I got oppotunity for internships and jobs from them since they have seen my work in team. I hope you will also go forward with this opportunity and I would always be there to help you in any proccess.
Yours truly,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain a friendly, appropriate tone for writing to someone you know. You identify Cambridge University in London and explain that practical projects, teamwork and contact with students from different countries shaped your experience. You also say the year improved your confidence and skills and led to internship and job opportunities. These relevant details meet the task well. However, the description of what you learnt about the country is less fully developed: mentioning friends from different countries and “various culture” does not clearly explain what you discovered about the host country itself. The study benefits are clearer, but could be supported with a specific example of how the experience helped your university studies. Developing these points would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about the course and experience, a paragraph about its benefits, and a suitable closing. The ideas generally progress from where you studied to what you gained, and phrases such as “Honestly” and “Also” help signal connections. However, the progression within the first main paragraph is somewhat abrupt: the discussion moves from practical projects to international friendships without explaining the link. Some connections are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “I” and “got.” Consider grouping the country and cultural learning together, then explaining the academic benefits in a separate paragraph, with clearer links between each idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for describing study and personal development, including “hands on projects,” “real life projects,” “confident,” and “internships.” These choices make your main message clear. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “having experience of studying abroad,” “got aware with,” and “opportunity for internships and jobs from them.” There are also spelling errors in “theoritical,” “knowledgable,” “oppotunity,” and “proccess,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe becoming familiar with different cultures and receiving internship offers through your university or project work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including “I hope you will also go forward with this opportunity” and the sentence explaining that the experience changed your way of thinking. Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors do not prevent the reader from following your main points. Some grammatical problems are present, however. “I had just completed 1 year of experience” uses an awkward tense and structure; “I completed a one-year course” would be clearer. In “I got many friends from different countries and got aware,” the verb pattern is not controlled, and “various culture” has a number-agreement problem. Review verb forms, articles and singular/plural agreement, and vary sentence structures while keeping them accurate.
