Dear........,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sarah,

I hope you are doing great and I am fine here as well. Last week I received your letter and congratulations !. You are going abroad for higher studies. I know there's a lot of going in your mind, however, I am here to help you out.

Last year, I went to Cambridge university for a diploma in social work and let me tell you that was one of the best decision, I have made for myself. UK was exactly as I have always seen in the movies and the culture is quiet fascinating. There were a lot of things that I learned. I got myself into voluntary work and some painting as a part-timer.

When I returned back home. It was much easier to grab my dream job as a senior social worker in public sector. this all became feasible because of the study and experience I gained on the foreign land.

I hope my experience would help you in a positive way.

Looking forward to hearing your stories.

Regards,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you identify Cambridge University and the UK, mention learning about the culture, and explain that the experience helped you obtain a senior social-worker role. The personal, friendly tone is suitable for writing to Sarah. However, the description of what you learnt about the country is quite general: “the culture is quite fascinating” does not give her a specific insight, and the link between your studies abroad and your later job could be explained more clearly. Develop these points with one or two concrete examples, such as a cultural difference you noticed or a skill from your course that proved useful in your work.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, a paragraph about your time abroad, and a closing. The sequence from studying in the UK to returning home and finding work is generally easy to follow. Some connections between ideas are less clear, however. For example, voluntary work and painting are introduced but not linked to what you learnt about the country or how the year supported your studies. The transition “When I returned back home” also stands as a sentence fragment, interrupting the flow. Group related details together and use clearer links to show how your experiences contributed to your academic and career development.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including “voluntary work,” “culture,” “senior social worker,” and “public sector.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is mostly appropriate. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “a lot of going in your mind,” “one of the best decision,” and “on the foreign land.” “Quiet fascinating” also appears to be an inaccurate word choice. Aim for more natural collocations and precise phrasing so your meaning sounds fluent rather than translated. For instance, describe the recipient as having “a lot on your mind,” and refer to your experience “abroad.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “I know there's a lot …, however, I am here to help you out,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain. In “one of the best decision,” the noun should be plural; “When I returned back home” is an incomplete sentence, and “this all became feasible” needs a capital letter at the start. The punctuation around “congratulations !” is also inaccurate. Review sentence boundaries, agreement and punctuation, and check that each sentence has a complete main clause. Greater control of these points would make the letter smoother while preserving your friendly style.
