Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Neha,
I hope you are doing well. I recently came across your plans of moving to Canada. I felt so exciting and happy for you as you are excelling in your professional journey. Arjun, recently mentioned to me that you are taking your first international trip all by yourself.
I would like to express my experience in Canada in this letter to guide you further on your first solo trip. I studied P.G Diploma in healthcare administration in the Conestoga College of Arts and Science in the beautiful city of Kitchener, Ontario. As far as I know, you are enrolled in the same university course and I would like to let you know that you have made a great choice.
As, it was my first international voyage as well, I learned a lot about the culture and heritage of Canada. I would like to advice you to keep some warm clothes, snow boots and other winter essentials handy for this journey. Moreover, the documents related to your visa, accomodation, university and passport should be always carried carefully.
I strongly believe that this decision will be a fruitful decision. This training has helped me immensely in being independent, strong and optimistic individual. I learned practical implementations of my subject through canada's strong technical knowledge of healthcare. I was able to utilize the same training in my workplace and I was praised immensely. I hope you will have the best time of your life there and I wish you all the best for your upcoming trip.
Yours lovingly,
XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address all three bullet points: you identify Conestoga College in Kitchener, describe learning about Canadian culture and practical healthcare training, and explain that the experience helped you become independent and apply your learning at work. The letter is relevant and uses an appropriate friendly closing. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The description of what you learnt about Canada focuses mainly on culture and winter preparations, rather than giving a specific insight into the country or its people. The benefit to your studies is also stated broadly; explain more clearly how the training connected to your course or improved your academic performance. The opening introduces her travel plans, which slightly shifts attention from her study-abroad question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, information about your college, advice about Canada, and a concluding paragraph about the benefits. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “I strongly believe” make relationships between ideas visible. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening moves from her plans to travel to your experience without clearly establishing that she is going abroad to study, and “As, it was my first international voyage as well” is an awkward transition. The repeated use of “decision” in the final paragraph also makes the progression feel less controlled. Use clearer references and transitions to connect each point directly to her study plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including topic-related terms such as “healthcare administration,” “visa,” “accommodation,” and “technical knowledge.” Phrases such as “fruitful decision” and “independent, strong and optimistic” show attempts to express evaluation and personal development. Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, though, and occasionally make the meaning less precise: “came across your plans” is not the best fit for learning about them, “I felt so exciting” uses the wrong form, and “practical implementations of my subject” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling and capitalization slips, including “accomodation” and “canada’s.” Aim for natural collocations and precise wording, especially when describing what you learnt and how it supported your studies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the same university course” sentence and the conditional structure “I hope you will have the best time.” Most ideas remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies are noticeable, however. For example, “I felt so exciting” should use an adjective describing your feelings, and “I would like to advice you” has an incorrect verb form after “to.” The opening phrase “As, it was my first international voyage” also has faulty punctuation and clause structure, while “an independent, strong and optimistic individual” needs an article before the adjective sequence. Review verb patterns, articles, and punctuation around introductory clauses to make your sentences more consistently accurate.
