Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sheli,
I'm writting to guide you and share my experience studing abroad.
During my stay in abroad last year i did my MBA from NYU which is a reputed university in Newyork. I had different subjects like advance accounts, marketing and risk management which help me understand different aspects of accounting and finance.
Here in united states, the culture is very different from our country. people here are more independent and career oriented. people work two to three part-time jobs to support their studies and also continue to learn new things each day.
once i completed my studies i got the offer from citi bank where they offered me a good pay along with the company benefits. There is a lot of competition these days but i managed to get the offer as i had a degree from a reputed university.
Keep in touch. let me know if you have further questions.
Regards,
Reshma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses the three requested points: you identify NYU in New York, describe aspects of life in the United States, and explain that the qualification helped you obtain a job at Citi Bank. These details make the response relevant and give the reader a clear account of your experience. However, the explanation of what you learnt about the country is mostly a broad observation about independence and part-time work, and the link between the year abroad and your studies could be developed more directly. For example, explain how studying accounting, marketing, or risk management improved your university learning or prepared you for later coursework. A warmer, more personal opening and a little more advice to Sheli would also make the letter better suited to its purpose and audience.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a generally clear sequence: you introduce your experience, discuss your studies and the country, then describe the job outcome before closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader distinguish these topics, and the letter format is easy to follow. Cohesion is sometimes basic, however, with paragraphs placed next to one another without much explanation of how the ideas connect. The transition from learning about US culture to receiving a job offer, for instance, could be made clearer. Repeated use of “people” also makes the cultural paragraph less smooth. Use linking phrases that show cause and effect or contrast, and make references more precise so the reader can see how your studies, cultural experience, and career outcome relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant terms such as “risk management,” “career oriented,” and “company benefits.” The response also includes some topic-specific language about university and employment. However, spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “writting,” “studing,” “Newyork,” and “advance accounts.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “my stay in abroad” and “did my MBA.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they limit the range and control expected at a stronger level. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for studying overseas, describing cultural observations, and explaining academic benefits.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, and the main message remains understandable. For example, “people work two to three part-time jobs to support their studies and also continue to learn new things each day” combines related ideas effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, prepositions, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “During my stay in abroad,” “subjects … which help me understand,” and the lowercase starts in “people here” and “once i completed.” The tense also shifts between past experience and present description without always being clearly controlled. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and article use, and punctuate sentence openings consistently. More varied complex sentences, used accurately, would strengthen the response.
