Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Swale,
I hope you are doing great. I received your letter this morning, and I am quite happy that you are planning to study in abroad for a year. I am writing this to you, as you requested me to share my experience about studying in abroad.
Firstly, it was all started when I was doing my graduation in Tech and Softwares from the Delhi University. When my graduation comes to end the institution suggested me to persive atleast one year foreign learning programme. So, I chose to do it from the University of Ontario. It was not any random selection of the university, I did some research and had some friends who were already there to help me with the basic administrative stuffs.
To be honest, it was a great experience studying in Ontario. The syllabus was super understandable. The major thing which I loved was the nature of the local citizens. They were extraordinarily helpful. One thing that I learnt while studying in foreign is how the goverment and the locals come together when it comes to their nation's pride. I loved almost every experience that I had in Canada.
Choosing the University of Ontario for my one year study plan in foriegn was the one of my best decision. During this one year, I got to learn multiple things at a time. I gain experience of how to handle things alone and how to get socialise with people around the world.
I wish you all the best for your future.
Yours sincerely,
Owais Ansari

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain an appropriate, friendly letter style. You identify the University of Ontario as your destination, describe helpful local people and a sense of national pride, and explain that the experience taught you independence and how to socialise with people from around the world. These details make the response relevant and give the reader a clear account of your experience. However, some parts are less fully developed: the description of what you learnt about Canada is quite general, and the link between the year abroad and your academic studies is not clearly explained. For example, you mention that the syllabus was understandable but do not say how the experience supported your course or learning. A specific academic benefit would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs about choosing the university and experiencing Canada, and a closing. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “To be honest” help signal the movement between ideas, and the reader can follow the main message. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The first paragraph repeats the purpose of writing, while “Choosing the University of Ontario…” begins a new point without clearly linking the personal skills described to the benefit for your studies. The transition from the country’s citizens to national pride could also be developed more logically. To strengthen progression, organise each paragraph around one task point and use clear references to connect examples with the benefit they illustrate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main experience, including phrases such as “administrative stuffs,” “local citizens,” and “nation’s pride.” There are also attempts to use more specific language about studying and adapting abroad. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make the expression noticeably less natural, which limits precision. Examples include “study in abroad,” “persive,” “foriegn,” and “get socialise”; “super understandable” is also informal and vague for describing a syllabus. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully. More precise choices such as “study abroad,” “undertake a programme,” and “the course material was easy to follow” would help you express your ideas more naturally and appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, including subordinate clauses such as “when it comes to their nation’s pride” and “as you requested me to share my experience.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in verb forms, tense, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For instance, “it was all started” would be more naturally expressed as “it all started,” and “When my graduation comes to end” needs a consistent past tense and an article. In “I gain experience,” the past-tense form is needed, while “the one of my best decision” has an incorrect article and plural form. Review these patterns and proofread each sentence for tense consistency and complete, well-formed clauses.
