Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Aman,

Hope you are doing well! I am so excited to hear about your thoughts of going abroad to study. I would love to share my experience with you.

I chose Canada to study as I have my friends living there already, which helped to make my life easier. As you know, living abroad is not only expensive but also lonely. But Canada is less expensive than other countries when comparing Visa and living costs.

It was my first time visiting Canada, and I experienced new things. I was impressed with the traffic laws. Along with my studies, I also learned about the culture of the country. People were super generous to teach me that helped me to indulge into new country .

Studying abroad was useful for me. I got a chance to improve my computer skills while using a new technology system that has not been launched in our country yet. I also got experience in one of the top companies, which will help my resume for future.

I truly encourage you to choose Canada for study. Let me know if you need any other details.

Take care

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you identify Canada as your destination, mention learning about its traffic laws and culture, and explain that new technology and company experience supported your studies and future career. The friendly tone and recommendation also suit a letter to someone you know. However, some points are only briefly explained. For example, “I was impressed with the traffic laws” does not say what you learned about them, and the link between your company experience and your university studies could be clearer. The reason for choosing Canada—having friends there and lower costs—is relevant background, but more detail about your actual learning experience would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for your destination and experiences, an explanation of study benefits, and a closing. This makes the main information easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “As you know,” “Along with my studies,” and “I also,” showing some flexibility beyond simple sequencing. To make the progression smoother, connect ideas more explicitly within paragraphs. For instance, the shift from traffic laws to culture is abrupt, and “People were super generous to teach me” does not clearly identify what they taught you. A more precise reference and a clearer link between each example and what you learned would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “traffic laws,” “culture,” “computer skills,” and “technology system,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “indulge into new country,” but this phrase is not natural in English and makes the meaning less clear. Other choices, including “thoughts of going abroad,” “super generous,” and “help my resume for future,” are understandable but imprecise or informal for this context. Aim for more accurate collocations and a consistent friendly-but-natural tone. For example, describe how local people helped you “settle into the country” and say the experience “strengthened my CV.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, such as “I chose Canada to study as I have my friends living there already, which helped to make my life easier.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical choices reduce accuracy. In “People were super generous to teach me that helped me,” the relative clause is not correctly connected to the preceding idea; separating it into two sentences would help. “I also got experience in one of the top companies” needs a more accurate article and preposition pattern, while “Let me know if you need any other details” is a well-controlled conditional structure. Continue practising relative clauses, articles, and sentence boundaries to make complex ideas clearer.
