Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Maria,
How are you doing? I'm writing this letter to share my experience of styding at Stanford university, USA where I completed my master's degree in computer science last year.
I've got to know from your brother that you are considering Stanford university to complete your bachelor's degree in computer science, right? I must say that it's a great decision because the weather and lifestyle is amazing in the USA. Apart from that, during my course I also got some knowledge about the rich history and federal laws of the America. Furthermore, people are extremely polite and generous due to their rich culture and belief in the god.
Although I paid a huge amount as my tution fees, the degree I've got has a great reputation across the world. As soon as I completed my studies, I got a job offer from a world class company at its senior level consultant position; also with a huge package. Feel free to contact me if you need more information.
See you soon,
Rohit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The letter follows the requested format and gives a clear location: Stanford University in the USA. It also mentions learning about the country’s history, federal laws, weather, lifestyle and culture, and explains that the degree helped the writer secure a senior-level job. However, the task asks about a year abroad as part of university study, while the opening says you completed a master’s degree there; this makes the experience less clearly connected to the situation Maria is considering. The description of what you learnt about the country is also broad, and the explanation of how the year helped your studies focuses mainly on the degree’s reputation and employment outcome. Add specific academic benefits, such as improved technical skills or exposure to a different teaching approach, to develop this part more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The ideas are arranged in a generally coherent sequence: you introduce your experience, discuss the USA, explain the qualification’s value, and close with an offer of help. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Apart from that” and “Furthermore” make relationships between points clear. Some connections are less effective, however. The question about Maria’s plans interrupts the account of your own experience, and “Although I paid a huge amount” introduces a contrast that is not fully developed before the focus shifts to the degree’s reputation. The final paragraph also combines the cost, career outcome and invitation rather abruptly. Grouping the country observations together and then explaining specific academic benefits would make the progression smoother and the links less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including “rich history,” “federal laws,” “reputation across the world” and “job offer.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is mostly friendly and appropriate. There are some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “styding” is misspelled, “tution fees” is also misspelled, and “the god” is not a natural way to refer to religious belief in this context. Phrases such as “huge package” and “senior level consultant position” are understandable but could be expressed more idiomatically. Aim for accurate spelling and collocations, and choose vocabulary that describes the academic experience more precisely rather than relying on broad praise such as “amazing” and “great.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex forms, such as “Although I paid a huge amount…” and “As soon as I completed my studies…,” and the message remains clear. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “Stanford university, USA where” needs clearer punctuation or a relative clause, and “the America” should not take the definite article in this use. In “the weather and lifestyle is amazing,” the plural subject requires a plural verb. The question ending “right?” also needs a space before it, and the sentence beginning “also with a huge package” is a fragment rather than a complete clause. Review articles, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, while retaining the complex structures you have attempted.
