Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sarah,
I hope you are doing good. I am witing this letter in reply of your question regarding my experience for studying aboard.
I went to Canada to attend 2 year course with McMaster University in Hamiton. I opted for this country rather than going another any other coutnry because they have advanced techonolgy, modern studies pattern and focus on sharing pratical knoweldge with the help of CO-OP.
It was the best time of my life while I was there in Canada. This country provide me the opportunity to learn and life in a multi-cultural environment, along with that it also teaches you to become independent and self motivated in nature as you will be living alone. Additonally, leaving aboard also provide you a chance to learn most important skills such as decision making, teamwork, collabrating with other people and building communication skills and confidence level.
All this really helpful me to boost my career and take to next level in fulfilment of my goal. It was not only very important part but also most curcial part of my life which provided me the leaverage to ehance my skills and knowledge on the international platform and also help me make connections around the other part of the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you identify McMaster University in Hamilton, describe learning about multicultural life and independence in Canada, and explain that the experience supported your career and skills. The response is relevant and gives the reader a clear sense of your experience. However, some parts are more fully addressed than others. The country description lists broad benefits, such as teamwork and confidence, but gives little specific insight into Canadian culture or daily life. The academic benefit is also quite general: explain, for example, how co-op learning or a particular course helped your university studies. A more direct, personal explanation of these points would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about the university and destination, a description of personal learning, and a concluding account of benefits. This makes the main ideas easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “along with that” to connect points. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and some sentences combine several ideas without showing their relationship clearly. For instance, the long sentence beginning “Additionally, leaving abroad…” moves through decision-making, teamwork, communication, and confidence in one list. Group related ideas and use clearer transitions between cultural learning and academic benefits. A suitable closing such as “Best wishes” would also complete the letter format.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing study and personal development, including “multi-cultural environment,” “independent,” “decision making,” and “international platform.” These choices help communicate the main message, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward, as in “aboard” for “abroad,” “leaverage,” and “fulfilment of my goal.” Some collocations are also unnatural, including “modern studies pattern” and “boost my career and take to next level.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary about the country and your academic experience would also make the letter more informative.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a sentence using “as” to explain living alone. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am writing this letter in reply of your question” needs a more accurate preposition pattern, while “This country provide me” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “All this really helpful me,” the sentence is missing a verb, and “also help me make connections” does not maintain the past-time reference consistently. Review verb forms, agreement, articles, and prepositions, then proofread each sentence for a complete and consistent structure. This will help you express your ideas more accurately.
