Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Riya,
I am happy to hear you thinking to spend a year abroad as part of your university course.I am more than happy to share my experience with you.
I still cherish my days of livng in Canada. I lived in Toronto city and did my course from University of Toronto. Studing in different country and adapting to different culture was quite challenging but has taught a lot more than that.
Additionally, I learnt a lot about their native language by living there. I came across to know about Canada's culture and history like how Canada has grown by immigration. They used to bring immigrants from different parts of the world to stay and work and I guess that's how they have multiculture.
My year abroad of studies helped and valued me a lot in different ways as I acquired a lot of skills like decsion making, task management and time management. Moroever,Canada has opened numerous job opportunities for me in back home country as having a canadian degree on resume attract employer's attention to interview.
I hope you find above information well and Good luck for your future studies.
Yours lovingly,
Tia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify Toronto and the University of Toronto, describe learning about Canadian language, culture and immigration, and explain that the experience developed practical skills and improved your employment prospects. The letter is relevant and the friendly tone suits the recipient. The explanation of what you learnt is less fully developed, however: the comments about immigration and multiculturalism are broad, and “learnt a lot about their native language” does not specify what you discovered. The study benefit is clearer, but could be linked more directly to your university subject or academic progress. The response covers the task well overall; adding specific examples and developing each point more evenly would make it more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape, moving from an opening, to your location and learning, then to the benefits and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the three main topics, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” signal progression. Some connections are less smooth: “Studying in different country…” is followed by “Additionally” even though the next point shifts from adapting to culture to language and history. The long sentence about immigration also combines several ideas without clear punctuation, while “I hope you find above information well” is an unclear closing reference. Use more precise transitions and divide related ideas into shorter sentences to make the progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “adapting to different culture,” “immigration,” “decision making,” and “job opportunities.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the language less natural and sometimes require the reader to interpret your meaning. For example, “came across to know about” is not an idiomatic way to describe learning, and “Canada has opened numerous job opportunities for me in back home country” is awkwardly expressed. There are also spelling errors such as “livng,” “Studing,” and “Moroever.” A broader set of accurate, natural phrases and careful proofreading would improve precision and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “Studying in different country and adapting to different culture was quite challenging but has taught…” and the explanation beginning “as I acquired…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I am happy to hear you thinking” needs a complete verb pattern, and “I lived in Toronto city and did my course from University of Toronto” has missing or incorrect articles and prepositions. In “having a Canadian degree on resume attract employer's attention,” the subject–verb agreement and article use are inaccurate. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly where sentences run together. Review articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
