Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Reva,

How are you? I hope you are fine. I got a message about your's aborad university admission. Congratulation for that and I would like to share my experience.

Firstly, I have studied in the York university. It is a very famous university in the Toronto. All the proffessors were really helpful and friendly throughout my term, even though I am an international student. For my study, I stay at the nearby apartments and it was affordable.

Apart from my study, the people around me including neigbours were friendly and open-minded. We have celebrated may festivals together. Overall, this country has many things to offer but you need to be brave enough to express yourself and be generous to people.

All the subjects of my study was relaistic and preapared in a such way that it is directly helpful to laneded into the job market. For example, all the tools and the softwears that I was learning, is actully used by the proffesionals and into the real market. All in all, my experience is above the mark and I wish you will also get the same feeling and people in your journey.

All the best. Let me know, if you have any further questions regarding my journey.

Best Regards,

Harsh Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you identify York University, describe friendly neighbours and shared festivals, and explain that practical subjects and software helped prepare you for employment. These details make the letter relevant and give the reader a useful sense of your experience. However, the location is unclear: York University is described as being “in the Toronto,” which does not clearly establish where you lived or studied. The country-learning point is also somewhat general, focusing mainly on people and the advice to be brave and generous. The study benefit is more specific, but could be developed with an example of how a particular skill supported your university course. Clearer, fuller details would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, paragraphs about the university and local people, an explanation of academic benefits, and a friendly closing. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Apart from my study,” and “For example” help guide the reader, and the tone is appropriate for writing to someone you know. This organisation is effective, though some transitions feel mechanical, and the connection between the country description and the advice about being brave and generous is not fully explained. The final paragraph also combines the study benefit, an overall evaluation, and a wish for the recipient, so its focus becomes less clear. More natural links between ideas and a sharper paragraph focus would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “helpful and friendly,” “open-minded,” “affordable,” and “job market.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “softwears” and “proffesionals,” but spelling errors make these choices less effective. Several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, including “your's aborad university admission,” “in the Toronto,” and “above the mark.” The repeated use of general terms such as “study,” “experience,” and “helpful” also limits precision. Aim to learn common phrases as complete units and check spelling carefully; more natural expressions would make the letter clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including “All the professors were really helpful and friendly throughout my term, even though I am an international student.” This shows an attempt to connect ideas, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “I have studied” and “I stay” do not fit consistently with describing a completed year abroad; “All the subjects … was” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “in the Toronto” uses an unnecessary article. In “the tools … that I was learning, is actually used,” the subject and verb do not agree. Review past-tense narration and agreement, then proofread each sentence.
