Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Anisha,
I hope you are doing well. I came to know that you are planning to study overseas for one year as a part of your university curriculum. I want to share my experience of doing foreign study with you.
I took one year marketing management course in Canada. The main reason for choosing this course was to focus on one of my major subjects from my university degree. I wanted to expand my marketing skills and learn some advance marketing tools.
While I was there for my studies, I met people from different country and background. Here, I leant about the culture and traditions of communities who are setteled for very long. People are of very helpful and kind nature.
I believe studying in foreign country help you to experience different types of struggle which an international goes through. However, It help in growing and learning different skills which are very much important in life. I got to know about some techniques which I can use in my future aspects of my career in marketing area.
I hope you will feel positive to take the step of studing abroad after going through my experience. In future, if you have any questions feel free to ask me.
Best Regards
Ankit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three points: you identify Canada as the study destination, mention learning about its culture and traditions, and explain that the course developed marketing skills and offered techniques useful for your career. The friendly opening and closing also suit the audience. The explanation of what you learnt about the country is less fully developed: “People are of very helpful and kind nature” gives a general impression, but a specific example of a custom, community, or everyday experience would make this more informative. Similarly, explain more directly how the course or experience supported your university studies, rather than focusing mainly on future career benefits. The response covers the task, but these ideas need further detail for a stronger, more complete letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the reason for writing, moves through your course and experiences, and ends with advice and an invitation to ask questions. Paragraphing helps distinguish these topics, and phrases such as “While I was there” and “However” guide the reader through the account. Some connections are less clear or slightly mechanical. For example, “However” introduces a contrast between struggles and personal growth, but the relationship could be explained more explicitly. The shift from meeting people from different backgrounds to learning about long-settled communities also needs a clearer link. Use a few more precise transitions and make the progression between each experience and its lesson explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “marketing management,” “curriculum,” “culture and traditions,” and “international.” This gives the letter an appropriate range, and the main message remains understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “doing foreign study,” “advance marketing tools,” and “future aspects of my career.” There are also spelling errors, including “leant,” “setteled,” and “studing,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “studying abroad,” “advanced marketing tools,” and “future career.” More precise vocabulary for the country and your academic learning would also help you describe your experience with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example, “I came to know that you are planning…” and “I believe studying in foreign country help you…”. The meaning is generally clear, but some errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms remain. In “People are of very helpful and kind nature,” the article and sentence pattern are incorrect; “studying in foreign country help” needs an article and subject–verb agreement; and “It help” should be “It helps.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “However, It help.” These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they limit grammatical control. Review articles and agreement, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
