Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sandy,
Hi! How are you? I'm so glad that you decided to move foreign country for doing masters in business management and writing you my whole experience of studying abroad.
First of all, I moved to Canada in 2024 for the masters of computer science in George Brown College located in Toronto. It is one of the top most colleges of Canada. Also, I rented an appartment there which was just five minutes far from the college.
Apart from the studies, I learnt numerous things about Canada not only difference in people's lifestyle but also cultural variations from India. Additionally, I became fluent in French language and learnt the skills of cooking Italian pastas. This country taught me to cope up with aloneliness and value of freedom.
Moreover, a completion certificate from Canadian College give me the opportunity to get a job in the best IT company of job which is my childhood dream. Now, I design my own website with the help of studies and experience i had from my masters course.
I hope you this information helps you and I want to know more about your planning. Do write to me.
Yours Lovingly,
John

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: you identify George Brown College in Toronto, describe cultural and lifestyle differences you noticed in Canada, and explain that the experience helped you gain skills and pursue an IT career. The friendly opening and closing also suit the relationship. The account is relevant, but some details are less fully developed: for example, “value of freedom” is not explained, and the link between your studies abroad and your current website design could be clearer. The claim that the certificate helped you get a job is useful, but a specific example of knowledge or experience that improved your university studies would answer the final bullet more directly. More explanation of these points would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens conversationally, moves through your location, what you learnt, and the benefits, then closes with an invitation to reply. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Apart from the studies,” and “Moreover” make the progression visible. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For instance, the sentence about becoming fluent in French and learning to cook Italian pasta shifts abruptly from cultural learning to personal skills. The transition from the certificate to getting a job and designing a website also needs clearer explanation. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make the links between examples explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main experience, including topic-related terms such as “masters of computer science,” “cultural variations,” and “completion certificate.” There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “cope up with aloneliness” and “childhood dream,” but several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural. Examples include “move foreign country,” “top most colleges,” “job in the best IT company of job,” and “Yours Lovingly.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning, although the main message remains understandable. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and word forms; a broader range will be more effective when used precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple sentences and some attempts to combine ideas, for example “I learnt numerous things about Canada not only … but also …” and “Now, I design my own website with the help of studies and experience…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation sometimes make the message harder to follow. Examples include “decided to move foreign country,” “a completion certificate … give me,” and the run-on transition in “childhood dream.Now”. The sentence beginning “Apart from the studies” also needs a clearer grammatical structure around its paired ideas. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining attempts at longer structures.
