Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Lisa,

I hope you are in the pink of health! I am writing this letter to share my experience of international study that I completed last year. I enrolled in the Business Management course at York University which is located in Toronto, Canada. It was a two-year diploma.

Moving on, Canada is a diverse country where you can meet people who come from various countries .It will help you to learn more about the culture diversity. However, you will be going to another country first time, thevalue of welcoming atmosphere will make you feel comfortable. Additionally, I got to know about the importance of time because Canada teaches us the punctuality which canno tbe ignored

Last but not least, I got the knowledge about Business Management that gave me a great assistance to develop my business skills.Since I have been studying commerce at my college, international study experience was helpgul to make strong connections with experienced people who are the best source to enhance the confidence level.

I hope my experience will be helpful for your abroad journey and I'm wishing you for your future studies.

Best wishes,

Dilpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three points: you identify York University in Toronto, describe Canada as culturally diverse and welcoming, and explain that studying there helped develop business skills and make professional connections. These details are relevant and the reader can understand your experience. However, some parts are less fully explained than others. The description of the country focuses mainly on diversity, punctuality and hospitality, without a specific example of what you observed or learnt. The benefit to your studies is clearer, but could be linked more directly to your commerce course and future academic work. The opening and closing suit a friendly letter; make the advice to Lisa more personal and specific.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall shape, moving from the study location to what you learnt about Canada and then to the academic benefits. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these main points, and phrases such as “Additionally” and “Last but not least” signal progression. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some control of organisation. To make the flow more natural and flexible, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and connect related ideas more smoothly. For example, the sentence about Canada’s welcoming atmosphere could be linked directly to your own experience of settling in. There are also spacing and punctuation breaks that interrupt the flow, particularly around “countries .It” and the final paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “diverse,” “punctuality,” “Business Management,” and “experienced people,” so the main ideas are communicated. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “in the pink of health” and “Last but not least.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “culture diversity,” “the value of welcoming atmosphere,” and “gave me a great assistance.” Spelling and typing errors such as “helpgul” and “can no tbe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases rather than elaborate expressions: for example, “cultural diversity,” “a welcoming atmosphere,” and “provided valuable support” would fit the context better.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a diverse country where you can meet people” and the reason clause beginning “Since I have been studying commerce.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “you will be going to another country first time” needs an article and a more accurate construction, such as “it may be your first time going abroad.” In “international study experience was helpful,” the noun phrase needs an article, and the sentence about business skills would benefit from clearer clause structure. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Check articles, sentence boundaries and verb forms carefully while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
