Student answer (Band 6.0)

In most countries, it is common for kins to run a business together. Although family businesses may lead to rise in personal disputes, I believe its advantges outweigh its disadvantages.

The main merit of running family business together is flexibility. Family members have an option to take a day off from their business, if they are feeling sick. This is because that day could be easily managed by workers or other family member. As a result, they can focus on their health to recover by taking proper rest and business will continue as normal day. Moreover, family members take advantage of hundred profit earned. Family members put their all efforts to get big deals and uprise the sale by doing whole work themselves alone. Thus, they does not have to pay salary to hired workers and this money directly goes to their savings. Besides this, they could also fulfill their personal dreams with the saved finance. For example, a small business owners of stationery shop and cloth shop often involve their family members to support their business rather than paying high salaries tohired staff.

However, conflicts might rise in family business which is a drawback of this trend. It usually happens when one family member to achieve their own desires, steal money from business account. This is beacuse they might be forced to become the part of their family business, but they might have interest somewhere else. For instance, one family member who wants to open his own dance class, when refused by elders of home to give money takes a drastic step by robbering their own business. Therfore, this may later on lead to family seperation and weakens the bond between family. Even so, this problems could be tackled by amity, wheras the profit and flexible work hours helps the family business to grow.

To conclude, although working in family business could spoil personal relations, it offers chance to earn full profit and provides flexibility in work. Consequently, I believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. You address both sides with relevant points, especially flexibility, retaining profits, and the risk of conflict when relatives have different ambitions. The examples of shops and a family member wanting to open a dance class help make these points concrete. However, some reasoning is less fully developed: for example, the claim that family members can take time off because others can cover their work needs clearer explanation, and the conflict example is quite extreme rather than showing how disagreements commonly affect a business. To strengthen the response, explain the practical effects of each point and support them with more balanced, specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. The shift from flexibility to profit is abrupt, and “Even so” introduces a solution without explaining how amity would resolve the theft or disagreement described. References such as “this problems” also make it harder to identify exactly what is being discussed. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports; make sure pronouns and linking phrases refer unambiguously to the preceding idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “personal disputes,” “profit,” “family separation,” and “flexible work hours,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “kins,” “uprise the sale,” “hundred profit,” and “robbering” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. There are also spelling errors such as “advantges,” “beacuse,” and “Therfore.” These issues limit precision even though the main message remains understandable. Build a reliable set of business-related collocations and check spelling carefully; prefer familiar, accurate wording over ambitious phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the opening (“Although…”) and conditional clauses such as “if they are feeling sick.” Most ideas can be understood, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction recur. For example, “they does not have to pay” should use a plural verb, while “a small business owners” has mismatched article and number. The sentence beginning “For instance, one family member who wants…” is incomplete, and “This is because that day could…” uses an awkward clause structure. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, particularly in longer sentences. Practise accurate sentence patterns and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and whether each sentence has a complete main clause.
