Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is common to see family members doing business together in myriad countries. This trend has several advantages such as better cooperation and trust between members and also a disadvantage such as strained family relations. Although this trend has a demerit, its merits are far more beneficial.
To commence with, the main advantage of family members working together in a business is that they have a better understanding between them. To elaborate, since family members spend most of the time together in a house, they know each member in and out. This offers better cooperation at workplace. In addition to this, it is natural for a person to trust its family more than an outsider. As a result, there are less changes of conflicts as everyone feels that responsibilities and profits should be equally distributed. To exemplify, the Reliance Empire of Mr. Mukesh Ambani has its family members in its board of control. This has strengthened their leadership and their decision making process becomes far more easy because family members have mutual respect for each others and hence they value each others opinions.
Despite the above-mentioned advantages, I believe there is a particular disadvantage. Sometimes there are chances of conflicts between the members due to personal reasons. This can lead to division in the family business which can further deteriorate their relationships. For instance, one of my friend's father had divided his superstore business and given one shop to teach of his sons to avoid any chances of conflicts in the future.
To recapitulate, this essay has discussed that improved trust, understanding and cooperation among family members are the merits of family members working together whereas also highlighted that sometimes there are chances of skirmish due to jealousy and personal reasons among the members of the family. Nevertheless, I still believe that its advantages are more fruitful as the growth graph of a business move upwards when the employees share a lovable and congenial bond because they all collectively value the business more instant of personal gains.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the advantages of family businesses outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the reference to the Reliance Empire and the personal anecdote about a friend's superstore. The argument is well-developed, though the discussion of the disadvantages could be slightly more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the response maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to link ideas, such as 'To commence with', 'In addition to this', and 'Despite the above-mentioned advantages'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing of 'its' in the introduction is a bit ambiguous, but the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. The student uses some good collocations like 'strained family relations' and 'congenial bond'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'less changes of conflicts' (should be 'fewer chances of conflict') and 'instant of personal gains' (should be 'instead of'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but more sophisticated or precise vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'trust its family' (should be 'their family'), 'each of his sons' (written as 'teach of his sons'), and 'business move upwards' (should be 'moves'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally good, and the sentence variety is sufficient to maintain interest, though more complex structures could be used with greater accuracy.
