Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify both advantages and disadvantages, the discussion is underdeveloped. The disadvantages section is particularly brief and lacks sufficient explanation or examples. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and specific illustrations. The position is clear, but the lack of length prevents a full exploration of the topic, resulting in a lower score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Also' is used frequently). The logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors, making some transitions feel abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases, such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'on the other hand,' to connect your ideas more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'back born' (backbone) and 'family business owned the members' (owned by). You rely on simple, repetitive vocabulary throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms. For example, instead of repeating 'family business,' try using terms like 'family-run enterprises' or 'multi-generational firms' to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'family business are'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'family members are owned'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency. Incorporating more complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
