In many countries, family members work together in their family business.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there is an increasing trend among various families to work in their own businesses, despite having a job outside. There are various benefits of this such as less work pressure, however, I think it might not be really beneficial for an individual's growth because this will not allow a person to work under different job patterns.

On the one hand, family members like to engage in their family business, which brings an ease and comfort to them as It is not hectic, there are no tight deadlines and one can work according to their will. For example- An individual from a business class family prefers to join family business rather than seeking a job outside. Moreover, members have same opinions because they are like minded so there will be zero conflicts and with each other support, they became more successful.

On the other hand, this will leads to negative development as well. Firstly, profit earned from the business will remain in the family, there will be no circulation of money. For instance - a young one will never be able to know about the financial management themselves as they will have their family support in difficult circumstances, they will not be great decision makers. Secondly, family business bound one and do not allow one to explore the job market. Their growth will be limited to a single place. This will lead to poor idea development and take the chance from one to analyze difficult situations and think critically about the solutions because they are dependents.

To conclude further, Although family business provide an individual easy access to their career development. Nevertheless, disadvantages are extremely high as family members may become lazy and they will live in their comfort due to less hardships, which leads in poor mental development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the disadvantages of family businesses outweigh the advantages. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of professional growth and the potential for dependency. However, some arguments are under-developed; for instance, the claim that there is 'no circulation of money' is economically weak and lacks logical support. Additionally, the assertion that family members are 'like-minded' and have 'zero conflicts' is a broad generalization that could be better nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more robust, realistic reasoning rather than sweeping statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Firstly,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'To conclude further,' which is not a standard phrase for a concluding paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The progression of ideas is logical, but the connection between the conclusion and the preceding arguments could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'job market,' 'financial management,' and 'career development.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'business class family' (which usually refers to airline seating) and 'take the chance from one' (which should be 'deprive one of the opportunity'). To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this will leads to,' 'family business provide'), missing articles ('in difficult circumstances'), and awkward phrasing ('with each other support'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of hyphens and capitalization after dashes. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence construction would significantly improve the accuracy.
