Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that in many countries, siblings and blood relatives run family businesses together. While this trend offers several advantages, it also has some disadvantages. This essay will discuss both the benefits and drawbacks before concluding that if family members work together with unity family businesses are more likely to succeed.
One major advantage of running a family business is that relatives usually have a strong level of trust, shared responsibilities, better communication results fast business growth. This is because they work sincerely in company without any corruption. For example, a well known factory Shan foods in Pakistan spread all over the world as the all family member are working together and build new factories in different countries. Consequently, they have no competitors in market who beat them.
On the other hand, sometimes everyone has different minded and strategies for running a business that causes problems to take immediate discussions as a result the companies faces loss and hinders all projects which will affected and delays to complete timely. For instance, if two siblings have different views about investing money in a new branch, their disagreement could create conflict and delay important decisions. Therefore, although family members may have a strong bond, they need to maintain professionalism and respect each other’s opinions to avoid conflicts in the workplace.
In conclusion, although running a family business can lead to conflicts and disagreements, it also offers significant benefits, such as mutual trust, cooperation and shared responsibilities. In my opinion, family businesses are more likely to succeed when relatives work together with honesty, unity and mutual respect.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and presents a clear position throughout. The introduction outlines the scope of the essay, and the conclusion restates the writer's stance. Ideas are extended and supported, such as when the student mentions trust and shared responsibilities, and provides an example regarding Shan Foods, although the example is slightly over-generalized. In the third paragraph, the counter-perspective regarding differing mindsets and delayed decision-making is articulated adequately. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be slightly more rigorous and detailed, avoiding slight leaps in logic. Overall, the task response is well-managed and satisfies the prompt requirements fully, positioning it comfortably within the Band 6.5 to 7 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are arranged coherently with appropriate paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing advantages and disadvantages, followed by a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'One major advantage', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there are some mechanical or slightly awkward transitions, such as 'better communication results fast business growth', which impacts the flow of information. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional grammatical awkwardness in transitions slightly disrupts the overall cohesion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the essay has a discernible structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'cooperation', 'professionalism', 'disagreements', and 'competitors'. However, there are several word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'communication results fast business growth', 'work sincerely in company', and 'everyone has different minded'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is inconsistent. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the errors in word formation and collocation prevent the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, the writer should focus on precise word forms and natural collocations rather than relying on awkward literal translations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures, such as in the conditional structure 'if two siblings have different views...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in clause structure, preposition use, and word forms, such as 'as the all family member are working', 'companies faces loss', and 'which will affected and delays to complete timely'. Punctuation is sometimes neglected, leading to run-on structures or comma splices. Despite these frequent errors, communication is rarely completely impeded, as the core meaning remains understandable. The grammatical control aligns well with the descriptors for Band 6, featuring a mix of structures alongside noticeable error frequency.
