Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate regarding the members of family who work alongside their elders to flourish the family business. This is practiced in many parts of the world which help families to stay connected and strengthen their bonds. Working in a family business have both advantages and disadvantages that will be discussed in this essay.
On the one hand, many families feel pride in the work that carries the legacy of their forefathers. As these businesses took a lot of time to develop and flourish, they need heirs from the family to take over and continue. Family business helps to stay connected and united by keeping a family members on one platform. Moreover, this practice also brings profit back in single place among different people like a father who is working with his sons. Another advantage of this inherited work is that many individuals who do not want to struggle outside for finding jobs, can simply join their family firm. Mostly, these people only need to maintain or expand the business without the stress of establishment.
On the other hand, many youngsters want to pursue different careers other than joining their own family work. They want to explore other possibilities or try their own capabilities into professional fields like medicine, arts or engineering. Some prefer working jobs rather than businesses due to workplace discipline and environment. Many others want to be known with their own identity rather than with family name. Although working in a family business is easy and conveniant in many ways, it can also lead to family disputes on inheritance and shares among children.
In conclusion, while both perspectives hold the merit, I believe young people must be given a fare chance to freely choose their future. It must be their on will to either join familiy business or explore the life on their own terms. This is beneficial for both families and younsters without creating unncessary conflict and providing them support.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and provides a clear personal position in the conclusion. Ideas are adequately extended, such as the benefits of inheriting established infrastructure and the potential for family friction over inheritance. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the point regarding staying connected on 'one platform' could be explained in greater depth. The writer successfully addresses the task, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 descriptor range, as the position is clear throughout and main ideas are relevant and supported with appropriate reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the advantages body paragraph, the disadvantages body paragraph, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are utilised effectively to guide the reader through the arguments, although referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'many families' or 'many youngsters'. Overall, the text is coherent and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, with attempts to incorporate less common items and thematic collocations such as 'flourish the family business', 'legacy of their forefathers', and 'professional fields'. There are, however, some vocabulary and spelling errors, including 'conveniant' instead of convenient, 'fare chance' instead of fair chance, and 'on will' instead of own will. These lexical slips do not impede communication but prevent the essay from achieving a higher band score, placing it comfortably at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts complex structures using subordinate clauses (e.g., 'As these businesses took a lot of time to develop and flourish, they need heirs...'). There are, nevertheless, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Working in a family business have...') and preposition errors ('outside for finding jobs'). While these errors are noticeable and persist, they rarely impede communication, reflecting the characteristics of Band 6 grammar.
