Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this technological era, family businesses are common around the world. Most of the individuals in some nations are working in their own business because they want to boost their family's income, trust and loyality. As per my perspective there are many pros as well as cons of working in faimly business however, benefits outweigh its drawbacks. Everything will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs.

These days most of the people are working with their parents and grandparents in their family business. The first and foremost merit of working together is trust and loyality which are most vital in any business. Additionally, if all the family members are doing their best in their own business then their business will automatically grow. For instance, in India there was a well known business man Dheeru bai Ambani who built companies like Relance, jio and etc. and currently Mukesh Ambani his son is handling all the business and they are now on 6th number in richest people list around the world just because of their family business.

On the other side there are some demerits as well of working in family organizations. First of all, sometimes spending all of the time with their relatives can create missunderstanding between them like financially and personally. Adding to this, sometime one member of the family can feel that he/she has small position in their own company as compared to his elder brother and sister. If this kind of scenario will happen then it will impact their personal life as well. For instance in America a person was working with his elder brother but aftersome time he stopped working with his brother because he was feeling so low about his job and income.

In conclusion, it can be reitrated that some part of society believe that working in their family's organization helps them in boosting their company while sometimes it can also create missundersting. I totally agree with this opinon that family business has more pros as compared to its cons.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and clearly stating a position that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. The ideas are generally relevant, using examples such as the Ambani family in India and an anecdotal example from America. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat superficial and relies on generalisations rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the reference to Reliance and Jio supports the point about growth, but the explanation remains brief. To reach a higher band, the student should expand further on the underlying mechanisms of why family businesses succeed or struggle. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing advantages and disadvantages respectively, and finishing with a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Additionally', 'On the other side', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or formulaic, like 'Everything will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs.' Referencing is generally clear, and the logical flow between sentences is maintained, though paragraph transitions could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, incorporating terms such as 'technological era', 'pros and cons', 'demerits', and 'reiterated'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('loyality' instead of loyalty, 'faimly' instead of family, 'missunderstanding' instead of misunderstanding, 'reitrated' instead of reiterated) and minor collocation issues. Less common lexical items are attempted, but inaccuracies in word form and spelling prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Communication is not impeded, but vocabulary control lacks the precision required for Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional structures ('If this kind of scenario will happen then...') and subordinate clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing choices, particularly tense inconsistencies and article omissions, such as 'As per my perspective' instead of 'In my view' and 'on 6th number' instead of 'ranked 6th'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but comma splices and minor structural awkwardness appear across the text. The errors do not impede overall communication, but they occur frequently enough to place the grammar firmly in the Band 6 range.
