Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both advantages and disadvantages of family businesses, presenting a clear position that the advantages outweigh the drawbacks. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the mention of zero investment costs and a positive working environment. However, the development of some points leans towards generalisation, and the extreme example in the second paragraph regarding a murder is somewhat disproportionate, which slightly limits the depth of argumentation. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are successfully fulfilled, earning a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the body paragraphs are separated into distinct themes of disadvantages and advantages. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'To conclude', though some linking and referencing feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is adequate, but the final conclusion sentence is somewhat disjointed in its phrasing ('Neverthless, working together can sometimes ruin...'). Overall, the logical progression is clear enough to meet the criteria for Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'relationship issues', 'statistical data', and 'productivity increases'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('prevelant', 'harrasment', 'investement', 'equipments', 'enviorment', 'Neverthless') and occasional awkward collocations ('working of family members'). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band, comfortably placing this response at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and participial structures ('Unlike starting a new business which requires...'). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including missing articles ('at same work place'), incorrect prepositions ('working of family members at the same place'), and comma splices ('If remain unsolved these small differences can lead...'). Despite these recurring errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
