Student answer (Band 6.0)

A number of individuals are prefer to work with someone who connected by biological parentage like blood relation in their firms it could be brother, sister, dad, mom. It maybe because of trust issues they dont want to work with someone who are completely unknown. In my openion, family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages.

There are a significant number of advantages, to begin with, I believe that working between whom you know is more safe for companies. You are not afraid of anything about staff so, you can give proper attention to work. Furthermore, the most important is that you can share anything about companies upcoming projects. For example, a business is not growning properly so, the owner have a few plans which is very important they arrange a meeting and discuss new mission infront of everyone without any fear, For the reason that he knows all the employees well.

However, there are also some disadvantages. One most important disadvantage is that personal disagreements can affect the business. For instance, if two family member have different openion about how to manage the company, their argument may create tension at work and it will definitely affect the business. Another disadvantage is that after sometime if they decide that they now want to separate their businesses it will also affect their personal relationship in a negative way.

In conclusion, Working with family members will give you some relaxtion for sometime but, it will also create a problem in future when personal conflicts affect professional decisions. I firmly believe, that working with family members have more advantages, individuals can easily communicate with eachother and sharing ideas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages, taking a clear position that advantages outweigh disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and supported by general examples, such as discussing trust and sharing upcoming projects, as well as acknowledging disadvantages like personal disagreements affecting the business. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat superficial and repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where points made earlier are reiterated without much extension. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from an introduction to advantages, disadvantages, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'to begin with', 'furthermore', 'however', and 'in conclusion', though some referencing and transitional links feel a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in run-on sentences like 'For example, a business is not growning properly so, the owner have a few plans...'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct points of view. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to ensure logical progression throughout the text, matching the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with clear attempts to use less common items and topic-specific vocabulary such as 'biological parentage', 'trust issues', 'professional decisions', and 'personal disagreements'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, including phrases like 'working between whom you know' instead of 'working with people you know', and spelling errors such as 'growning' and 'openion'. Despite these flaws, the lexical range is sufficient to communicate meaning effectively, aligning well with the criteria for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses using words like 'because', 'if', and 'that'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding punctuation, run-on sentences, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a number of individuals are prefer', 'the owner have'), and tense consistency. For instance, the sentence 'You are not afraid of anything about staff so, the owner have a few plans which is very important...' contains multiple errors. While these errors are noticeable and punctuation is faulty, they rarely impede overall communication, placing this performance at a Band 5.0.
