Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages by discussing both pros and cons, such as job security and freedom of opinion. However, the task is only partially addressed because the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the third paragraph. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 209 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. Ideas are introduced but remain under-developed due to the truncated nature of the essay. A clear position is stated at the beginning, but the lack of completion prevents a fully developed discussion. Based on these limitations, the response warrants a band score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some basic organization, with paragraphs opening with transitional phrases such as "First and foremost reason". However, overall progression is disrupted by the abrupt ending of the text. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as "so that, after some year their business on different level". Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical use of logical connectors prevents the text from flowing smoothly. These features align with the descriptors for Band 5.0 in coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms such as "job", "business", "knowledge", and "skill". There are notable word-choice and spelling errors, including "prons" instead of pros, "concequences" instead of consequences, and grammatical infelicities like "doesn't have to get job". While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as "financial consequences" and "routine expenses", these attempts contain noticeable errors that may cause some difficulty for the reader. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5.0 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent reliance on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("family members are join", "childrens does't have"), missing articles ("go for searching job"), and incorrect preposition use. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by run-on sentences and comma splices. Because attempts at complex structures are often faulty and errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance corresponds to a band score of 5.0.
