Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's era, when talking about the working profession of the family members, it is generally seen that they usually ties in family business in multiple nations. While discussing benefits and drawbacks of such an aspects, I believe advantages surpasses disadvantages on the large extent, which I will discuss in the forthcoming paragraphs with strong examples.

The major merit to work in family business develops numerous skills, such as decision-making, and many more, which enhances family ties between generations. Youngsters not only gain relatable knowledge from their guardians but also have unspoken support when they face any unforseeable difficulties. To cite an example, multi billioner empire of Ambani Group of Industries, built by Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani, in which both his sons invested their skills and talents throughout their life to made Mr. Ambani proud. They achieved both moral and practical lessons from his father to establish the empire. As a result, many families look after them even today.

The detrimental effect to work in family business by all the family memebrs would be no exposure to the job market. People from the same household never expirence the struggle of local people, who apply for multiple jobs, getting selected for the interview, how they prepare for it and finally the feeling of appointed in a role that they desired for. Moreover, if the business struggle of faces any lose, consequences should be hard as that is the only source of income for all the individuals in family.

To conclude, well developed family business brings various perks to the members of the damily to join and continue working for their life time regardless of rely on salary based work. According to my perspective, benefits certainly outweight the drawbacks of such a measure.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and presents a clear position throughout, stating that the advantages surpass the disadvantages. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the development of decision-making skills and using the Ambani Group example. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the second body paragraph regarding the lack of job market exposure for all family members. Overall, the ideas are relevant, and the position is well maintained, aligning well with the Band 7 requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently structured into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the benefits and the drawbacks. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, with phrases like 'The major merit', 'To cite an example', and 'To conclude' helping to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and transitional phrases occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'such an aspects' and 'regardless of rely on', keeping the score at a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 range. We award 6.5 here due to minor cohesion awkwardness.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'unforseeable difficulties', 'detrimental effect', and 'multi billioner empire'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'ties in family business' instead of 'engage in family businesses', 'surpasses' instead of 'outweighs', 'expirence', and 'damily'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary attempts are sometimes inaccurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure through relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing. Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('they usually ties', 'benefits surpasses'), incorrect prepositions ('merit to work' instead of 'merit of working'), and spelling mistakes ('memebrs', 'lose' instead of 'loss'). While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally pause, they rarely impede overall communication, fitting the Band 6 descriptor.
