Student answer (Band 6.0)

Mostly in vivid countries, family members work together in their family business to support and grow their business. The advantages of them working together outweighs the disadvantages due to various reasons discussed further.

The primary advantage of family members working together is that it helps the business grow immensely by the support of everyone working closely within the business. Every member knows all the aspects of the business very well. The one who started the business might have faced various problems during their initial days of establishment and also overcame those situations successfully which has become learning lessons that can be passed on to their next generation who will be leading the business in future. These lessons will help them to understand and analyze different problems and how to overcome those challenges. For instance, Kraft Heinz is a family oriented business which is running successful since last five decades and still all the family members are working together in growing the business.

Secondly, the employees, no doubt that they work hard to help grow the business but still they lack the emotion or don't have any personal attachment with the business as they don't own it. But on the other side, family members who are into the business know how it was built due to which they work very hard to make sure the legacy is maintained and business continues to grow in future. If the business grows then there are chances of expanding this business which will create employment in the society and help in the growth of economy as well.

In conclusion, family members working together in their family business creates a huge impact in the growth of the business as well as the economy by creating employment when businesses expands.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing whether family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages. You take a clear position in the introduction stating that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and this is supported throughout the body paragraphs. In the second paragraph, you elaborate on how business knowledge and lessons are passed down across generations, citing the example of Kraft Heinz. In the third paragraph, you contrast the emotional attachment of family members with that of regular employees, arguing that this drives long-term success and wider societal benefits. While some points, such as the economic impact, could be expanded further, your ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your essay has a clear overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Progression is visible as you move from the internal advantages of shared knowledge to the motivational benefits of emotional attachment. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary advantage', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the transitions between ideas. However, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the dangling phrase 'The employees, no doubt that they work hard...', which disrupts the flow of the sentence. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but cohesive links could be managed more flexibly to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'initial days of establishment', 'family oriented business', and 'personal attachment'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. For instance, the phrase 'vivid countries' appears to be a misuse of vocabulary (likely intended to mean various countries), and 'running successful' should be 'running successfully'. Spelling and word-choice errors do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'If the business grows then there are chances of expanding this business...'. There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings. For example, 'The advantages of them working together outweighs' contains a subject-verb agreement error (it should be 'outweigh'), and the sentence starting with 'The employees, no doubt that they work hard...' is grammatically incomplete and tangled. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but frequent minor errors in grammar keep this criterion at a Band 6.
