Write about the following topic:

In many countries, family members work together in their family business.

Do you think family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Having an family owned business is very common in many nations. The members of these families work in collaboration with each other. According to my perspective, these kind of businesses grow more and has greater understanding amongst them.

Firstly, when people are running any family business, there are always higher chances of growth. Because each individual of the family is equally interested and invested in success of their company. They all contribute their fair share in the business and have similar interest in growing it. As a result, when every member is showing the same amount of interest in the business it automatically flourishes. For instance, Ambani, the richest Indian businessmen has been running his family business from past three decades. He has grown enormously in these years because of his family support.

Additionally, better understanding is seen when people from the same family are doing business together. This happens as they all have personal and emotional connections with each other. Although the mind set of these individuals can be different from each other but they share the same family bond. Therefore, decision making becomes easier if family members are business partners too. To exemplify, if a new line of product needs to be added in the business, their would be discussions on it. As everyone knows each other well, the concept could be made understood quickly and easily.

In conclusion, businesses those are run by family members have a lot of merits that override their negative aspects. These companies grow quickly and they stand together in everything with mutal understanding.

The phrase 'Ambani, the richest Indian businessmen' contains a singular/plural noun mismatch. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts complex structures, such as subordinate clauses beginning with 'when' and 'because'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including fragment sentences like 'Because each individual of the family is equally interested and invested in success of their company' and 'their would be discussions on it' (their instead of there). Despite these recurring errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty.
