Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 110 words due to an unfinished sentence and random keyboard string ('frweqpoiu17'). Because of this severe under-length, the ideas cannot be fully developed or extended as required by Band 6. The writer attempts to address the prompt by mentioning both advantages and disadvantages, noting that family members can support a small business's growth. However, the second paragraph cuts off mid-argument, and the disadvantages side is never actually presented or discussed. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a Band 4.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text is organized with a basic introduction and transition markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, coherence completely breaks down in the second body paragraph due to the incomplete sentence and text truncation. While paragraphing is attempted, the overall progression of ideas is halted prematurely. Cohesive devices are used mechanically at the start, but the lack of completion prevents any sustained logical flow throughout the essay. This corresponds to the Band 4 descriptor where information and ideas cannot be fully arranged coherently.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, featuring everyday terms like 'family members', 'small business', and 'support'. There are noticeable errors such as pluralization issues in the opening sentence ('family member often decides') and an abrupt keyboard spam ('frweqpoiu17'). The lexical range is extremely limited and inadequate for a complete task, straining the reader's understanding. However, the initial vocabulary is somewhat relevant, fitting the Band 4 profile where vocabulary is basic and repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student attempts some complex structures, such as conditional or relative clauses ('who is going to start small business and does not have enough friends'), but control is weak. There are grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as missing articles ('start small business') and non-standard phrasing ('matters alot'). Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending in a fragmented sentence structure that halts all grammatical progression. The high frequency of errors and the inability to complete sentences place this performance at a Band 4.
